It’s being said that the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 will feature Multitasking and it will be Expose like multitasking found in the Mac OS X. With the multitasking feature in iPhone firmware 4.0, users will be able to navigate between multiple application running at the same time.
Those familiar with the design of iPhone 4.0 said that the user interface will resemble Apple’s desktop Expose feature, in that a key combination — reportedly hitting the Home button twice — will trigger an expose-like interface that brings up a series of icons representing the currently running apps, allowing users to quickly select the one they want to switch to directly. When a selection is made, the iPhone OS zooms out of the Expose task manager and transitions to that app.
Almost all Apple’s competitors are already offering multitasking feature. Apple has yet to offer true multitasking feature in iPhone firmware. Even the current lasted iPhone operating system iPhone OS 3.1.3 lacks the multitasking ability except some apps like Mail, iPod, Safari which mimic multitasking. As it is the most demanded feature in the iPhone world, Apple last year tried to compensate users by offering Push Notifications.
Daring Fireball’s John Gruber while responding to a WSJ report, also hinted about multitasking in iPhone OS 4.0. The today’s report also notes the other two features they observed in iPhone OS 4.0; the Global Mailbox and placing a single contact to the home screen.
iPhone HD – the next gen iPhone is rumored to be announce on 22nd of June and it will be loaded with iPhone OS 4.0.
