Unlock for iOS 4.2, 4.1 is on its Way! (iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G)

Sherif Hashim has found a new exploitable crash in iPhone baseband which may lead to and unlock for iOS 4.2 and iOS 4.1 Baseband 05.14.02 and 02.10.04.



This is what Sherif Hashim tweeted:

hmm.., 95% of the tweets i get (at least the last 500) are either about 5.14 or 2.10 :)

since nearly all my received tweets ask about both BB, I can report very early “initial” 1st step success on both sides, calmed down? :)

this won’t be feasible before the official 4.2 release at the earliest if everything went fine

Sherif Hashim is the same guy who found the exploit in Baseband 05.13.04 (iOS 4.0/4.0.1), and iPhone 4 baseband 01.59.00 which resulted in UltraSn0w 1.0-1 release.

MuscleNerd has also confirmed the iOS 4.2 unlock is a tweet saying:

There is an unlock on the horizon for both new jailbreakers and old, possibly not released until 4.2 though.

iOS 4.2 final is hitting masses in November as a universal firmware for all iOS based devices (iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch). So, a few more weeks to go and we’ll meet the iOS 4.2 unlock which will also unlock all older firmware baseband. GeoHot is also rumored to be working on LimeSn0w.

iPhone 4 users, however, can still update to iOS 4.1 without updating baseband, Here is how to. Limera1n and Greenpois0n jailbreak are already out to jailbreak iOS 4.1 for all iOs devices. Follow the guides linked below to jailbreak iOS 4.1:

    Hey evebody i know All of you are excited
    I found a way to update your firmware to 4.1
    Without updating your baseband or modem
    It will be really useful for the people that is running
    4.0.2 and want to jailbreak and unlock but want to keep old
    Base band!
    This is how:
    First download 4.1os then have your iPhone 4 o 3GS
    Ready to update
    Plug it to iTunes and then recover holding shift and look for the firmware
    4.1 your going to update
    Then update but when the process it’s on it’s half way
    Unplug your Internet service it will continue restoring but I guess the las part of rstoring is upgrading the baseband but since isn’t plug to the Internet service
    iTunes won’t do that part it will send you and error message and the iPhone
    Will stay in dfu mode
    Use tinyumbrella to kick out of recovery mode
    And listo!
    Updated but with your old base band
    Then just run limera1n and jailbreak then install cydia
    And ultrasnow this is for everybody that needs to unlock
    And preserve old basebands from 4.01 or 4.02 it was easy
    And it work for me

      Figmang, I think this ONLY applies to iPhone 4, not 3Gs. 3Gs need to wait for pwnage tools to preserve baseband. Another alternative is to wait for sherif-hashim and musclenerd to release the new version of ultrasn0w.

        Which iphone are you using? Remember this is only for iphone 4.

        What you encountered is call “stuck in reboot loop”, you can google for the solution, I guess iRecovery, but the best way is still restore it again (IPHONE 4)

      hi there, i have the same issue, for now it is impossible, you cannot unlock it..you have to wait until anything is released by sherif hashim…he has already that his latest stuff works, he is waiting for the release.

      i also have a phone with same issue…no luck

        actually my basedband is 05.14.02, sorry…you can try greenpoison or limerain to jaibreak..and go to cydia, press manage, press ultrasn0w and install the package

        also you can try to downgrade to version 4.0 and jailbreak

      Both the unlock and jailbreaks are ready.. they are waiting for the final iOS 4.2 to hit masses and conduct some testing..
      but unfortunately, Apple hasn’t yet pushed 4.2 final..

          Developers normally wait for the new release to make sure that unlock solution will be valid for both new and old iOS version.

          And yes, even if ur iPhone is jailbroken, u will have to wait for unlock solution if ur iPhone has BB (baseband) after 5.13 for 3GS.

          That’s my basic understanding being iPhone user, and quite familiar with unlock process !

    can somebody help me out? i have iphone 3G 4.1 5.14.02 baseband. the jailbreak stopped my youtube app from working. i tried googling it and following the tutorial which involved downloading stuff from cydia, but it didnt fix it. how can i fix this problem? thanks x 293389.
    want my phone to be ready for the unlock thats coming soon (or so i hope…)
