Taiwanese site DigiTimes reports that the next generation iPad mini with Retina Display will be released in October this year. The report is based on the information from the timeline for LG’s new Retina displays that would ship with the new device.
This latest report negates publication’s own scoop from earlier this week. On Monday, Digitimes speculated that Apple was delaying iPad mini with Retina display until 2014 due to Retina display shortage. But it looks like LG has made significant progress with the display production, and it’s back on track for the Fall.
The sources also added that LG is reportedly making new headway in producing Retina panel technology for use in the next-generation iPad mini, and expects to ship about 2-3 million units a month in preparation for Apple’s expected October release date.
The DigiTimes has been extremely hit-or-miss, so we can’t say that this is a solid information about the Retina iPad mini release date. However, if it comes this Fall, it’ll be great news for the folks holding off from the first-gen iPad mini just to get the Retina flavor of the device.
