How to Setup EDGE / GPRS on Your iPhone

Prerequisites: APN from your carrier.

Before following this guide, contact your carrier and ask them to enable EDGE/GPRS and send you settings for iPhone (APN).

Here’s your part of job:

Press Settings icon from SpringBoard of your iPhone. and then go to General Menu.

Press Network Menu and then go to Cellular Data Networking.

Now, under APN field, enter the APN that you received from your Carrier.

If you want to use EDGE right now. Press network button at top left (left screen shot) then turn Data Roaming ON.

Now you have Setup Edge / GPRS on your iPhone and ready to surf internet.

Note

Don’t forget to turn data roaming OFF when you’re done with internet usage. otherwise it will keep running resulting in a big iPhone Bills.

    Just giving APN Name does not activate your GPRS this is crap info I recieved the Access Point, Home page, Proxy, port numbers to setup Wap.
    There is no mention of these settings in this post its just a bull’s shit!!!!

    Hey, dont know about others, but mine worked perfectly by just entering APN name.

    And my proxy, port numbers are all left blank.

    I guess it all depends upon the service given my your mobile company.

    I am having a problem to use the internet on my iPhone using cellular data network my phone is version 3.1.2 carrier 5.0 with Firmware 05.11.07 8Gb And my carrier is ETH-MTN Ethiopian Telecommunication Corporation I have subscribed for GPRC service and my SIM card is working fine the internet on Nokia phone accessories and my iPhone shows the E cellular data network icon and I have put the APN etc.com but when I try to Brows the web it says “could not activate cellular data network” what is the problem and what can I do?

    It worked for me too
    I just enter the APN value and that’s it
    but if you want to use GPRS as a default internet connection
    turn off WLAN

    from breant kearny link u will get the x.mobileconfig file for disabling
    after doing what’s given in the broadbandforum u will get y.mobileconfig file for enabling Vodafone gprs, but this doesn’t work, so compare the two files and add the values from the y.mobileconfig file to the x.mobileconfig file.
    Mail urself the x.mobileconfig file n install on iphone by clicking on it in ur mail.

    hey cant config internet for version 4. they dont show any cellular data network, rather only showing the option on/off for mobile data. pls help me out….!!!!

    i live in the philippines and did a google search for my provider smart and for apn it says to enter internet … it worked. google has all the aNSWERS JUST ASK.thats how my techie friend weened me off asking him for every little advise. thanks google now i know why your stock is worth so much!
