WSJ: Apple to Launch a New High-end and low-end iPhone in September

According to Wall Street Journal, Apple will launch two new iPhone in September. The report claims that Apple will launch a high-end iPhone (dubbed as iPhone 5S) and a new low-end iPhone (dubbed as iPhone 5C) in September…

Apple has apparently asked Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., better known as Foxconn, to start shipping new iPhones early next month, the report claims. From WSJ:

Apple has asked assembler Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. to begin shipping both a new high-end and low-end iPhone in early September, people familiar with the matter said.

The shipping plans suggest that two new iPhone models could be launched as soon as next month, pointing to a strategy shift as Apple attempts to regain its momentum in the smartphone market. The company hasn’t previously announced different iPhone models around the same time.

The report is in-line with the previous reports claiming that Apple will be launching iPhone 5S and a new low-cost iPhone 5C with plastic exterior available in multiple colors this year. The WSJ report also notes that the mass production for iPhone 5S parts and the low-cost iPhone started in June.

Apple is expected to introduce iPhone 5S and all new low-cost iPhone 5C lineup at a media event on September 10. However, it’s unclear if Apple will be launching both new iPhones the same day.
