With every passing day, more and more leaks and reports related to 2017 iPhone models are surfacing. Now a new report from The Wall Street claims that Apple is opting for USB Type-C connection port for its upcoming iPhone models replacing Apple’s proprietary Lightning connector.
If the report turns out to be true, it will bring upcoming iPhone models in-line with company’s push to embrace industry-standard connector. Apple’s current Macbooks have already ditched the legacy connector in favor of a single USB-C port that is used for both power and data transfers.
There is one thing that remains a mystery and the report fails to talk about it is whether Apple would completely abandon it’s proprietary Lightning connector in favor of USB-C or simply changing the USB-A plus at the end of the cable for USB-C. If the former, it would be third connector change for the iPhone: 30-pins, Lightning, and then USB-C. Apple had introduced the Lightning connector back in 2012 with iPhone 5.
The report further adds weight to some of the existing reports and rumors claiming that Apple will launch 3 different models of iPhone in 2017: two LCD “s” models, and an additional 10-anniversary iPhone 8. Previous rumors suggested that Apple will be launch three different models in 2017 including a 5.8-inch premium mode, 5.5-inch Plus model and a 4.7-inch regular model.
The 5.8-inch iPhone 8, which is also being called the 10-th anniversary edition is the most exciting one to look forward to. It is expected to feature Samsung’s curved OLED display, Touch-Bar like “fucntion area” below the screen that will replace the Home button and Touch ID.
The WSJ’s report kept from talking about the pricing of 2017’s iPhone models, however a previous reports claimed the 5.8-inch iPhone 8 models to cost more than $1000.
