iOS 10.1 jailbreak Achieved – Demoed on iPhone 7 Plus [video]

The Jailbreak community is yet to see a public release of an iOS 10 jailbreak tool. Despite the lack of any public jailbreak release, Luca Todesco – an iOS hacker, showed off his personal jailbreak successfully running on an iPhone 7. Now another hacker has come up with his own jailbreak solution for iOS 10.1.

A iOS hacker, who goes by @ijapija00 Twitter handle, has demoed a working iOS 10.1 jailbreak on iPhone 7 Plus. The hacker claims that the same jailbreak tool works just fine on iOS 10.1.1.

Since iOS 10.1.1 is the latest software version Apple released for its iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices, it is pretty big deal to break through Apple’s security walls. Apple is known for pushing iOS updates aggressively in an effort to patch all the loopholes and bugs that hackers exploit to develop their jailbreaks.

This latest jailbreak demoed on a video is said to be based off a single and stable exploit. A stable exploit in the presence of Apple’s KPP (kernel patch protection) is a brilliant achievement. Apple’s KPP security is known for causing issues for improperly implemented jailbreaks effectively making them unstable.

In iOS 10 jailbreak demonstration, Luca Todesco used Cydia Substrate. @ijapija00, on the other hand, is using an alternative library of Cydia Substrate that is compatible with the latest firmware version. This way the hacker is able to run jailbreak tweaks despite the fact that Cydia Substrate is yet to see an update for the latest software version.

One thing that may cast some doubts on the legitimacy of this demo is the use of third-party system-query apps to show off the software version. The hacker does not show the iOS version by going in Settings > General > About, which is the standard way of showing off iOS version in such demos.

While an iPhone 7 Plus iOS 10.1.1 jailbreak has successfully been shown in the video, that does not guarantee a public release. Most of the recent jailbreaks demoed in the video could not see the light of the day, so do not put your hope high for this one too.

The developer developed this jailbreak for himself and does not plan on releasing it to the public. He believes that releasing and maintaining a public jailbreak is too much of a task for a single person and also adds the burden of risk and responsibility. Here’s is what he wrote int he description of the video:

The major reasons for this not being published are:
1. Cydia Substrate is patched by replacing a library that loads the tweaks into the system. If we would have a un-patched Substrate for 10.x then I maybe would consider twice about this. But as long as it’s patched and I don’t own it, there’ll be not releases!
2. As a single developer, I don’t want to be responsible for other people’s devices, if they break or lose something. I neither don’t have the time to help people having problems with the jailbreak process itself.
3. Also, this jailbreak is stable sometimes and sometimes not. That means that it’s mostly used for testing tweaks or for private use and is NOT ready to be released at all!

While we are not going to see this jailbreak publicly released, still, it is a proof that Apple’s walls of security around iOS can still be penetrated.

A public iOS 10.1 jailbreak is expected only from the larger teams of hackers such as Pangu or TaiG. However, both of these teams have remained silent since last few months.
