iPhone 7: 2.4GHz A10 Chip, 12MP camera, Two new colors, IPX7 Water Resistance, and more [Report]

KGI analyst has come out with weekend report shedding some light on the last minute details about the upcoming iPhone 7. The report reaffirms almost everything we have already heard about Apple’s yet to be launched smartphone, such as a design identical to the iPhone 6s with relocated antenna lines, and some specific details about certain new additions.

According to this new report, iPhone 7 will feature an all-new Apple A10 chipset manufacture by TSMC using a new process. Apple A10 chipset will incorporate a CPU clocked at up to 2.4 GHz, a huge processing speed jump over the existing A9 chip. The iPhone 7 will reportedly come in two new color options, which the report describes as “dark black” and glossy “piano black,” discontinuing the Space Grey color option.

While the display of the iPhone 7 will be the same 4.7-inch in size and same resolution, the display will reportedly copy the visual features of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. This means that iPhone 7 will be capable of rendering wide-color imagery booting the appearance of images taken by the new iPhone models.

Apple’s upcoming smartphones are widely-expected to come with upgraded camera but this new report from KGI Securities focuses on the all-new dual camera system which is said to be exclusive to the larger iPhone 7 Plus. The report claims that the dual-lens camera will enable optical zoom and ‘light field camera applications’. Both camera modules will have 12MP sensors. The dual camera setup will comprise of a wide-angle camera and a telephoto camera. The larger camera will incorporate optical image stabilization and a 6P lens. It will be interesting to see how Apple demos the camera part of the keynote. A new camera flash will help in taking better shots in low-light conditions.

As far as the memory and RAM are concerned, the report says that Apple will drop both the 16GB and 64GB storage option by making 32GB as base option and introducing a 256GB storage tier. The iPhone 7 Plus will have a 3GB of RAM module to better handle the advanced camera processing provided by the dual-lens camera system. The smaller 4.7-inch iPhone 7 will have the same 2GB RAM module as found on the iPhone 6s.

The upcoming iPhone model will include Lightning EarPods and a Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter to compensate the removal of the 3.5mm audio jack. The free space achieved by the removal of the audio jack will be used to add a new sensor to bring improvements to the Force Touch recognition system. Outside, it will look like another speaker outlet.

Other improvements reports by KGI include upgrade to the proximity sensor and waterproofing with an IPX7 rating. KGI analyst has estimated iPhone sale to hit the 65 million mark by the end of the year, which is a significant decrease over the 82 millions units estimated for iPhone 6s in the same timeframe last year.

We will be covering Apple’s iPhone 7 event in greater details on September 7. So, stay tuned!
