iPhone 7 to get Smart Connector and ditch 3.5mm headphone jack [rumor]

Last month, an alleged iPhone 7 Plus case leaked into the wild, which not only showed an oft-rumored dual camera system for the iPhone 7 lineup, but also an all new Smart Connector for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Now, in a new report, Macotakara says that the leaked iPhone 7 Plus case is indeed “the real thing,” and comes straight from Catcher Technology, one of the many assembly partners of the fruit company. While the report claims that the leaked case is indeed the real thing that Apple plans to bring to the table, but there seems to be some confusion still lingering.

Previous rumors also claimed the larger variant of the upcoming iPhone 7 will be the only model getting the dual-camera system, which is in line with this leaked iPhone 7 Plus case that has a hole for dual-camera setup. However, this report suggests that the case belongs to iPhone 7, which either means that the iPhone 7 will not be getting the Smart Connector, but also the dual camera system or the larger iPhone 7 Plus will actually be the model to get the Smart Connector which makes sense given the larger real-estate of the Plus variant.

This new report also agrees to the previous rumors claiming the Apple will be ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack from its upcoming iPhone 7 lineup and it will be replaced with a Lightning port capable of connecting with rumored lightning headphones.
