Apple has finally released its long-awaited iOS 9 software update for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. And just like any major software release, some users are facing “Software Update Failed” error when they try to download the iOS 9 update on their device. The error dialogue box provides no more details about the error other than saying that “An error occurred downloading iOS 9“. The error appears immediately after the user agrees to the terms and conditions of Apple’s OTA update.
It is not like the error is targeting any specific device or a device with specific configurations or hardware. Almost all types of iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices are experiencing the same error. And the worst thing is the error does not provide any additional information about the error other than saying that the Update failed due to an error occurred downloading iOS 9 update.
How to fix iOS 9 Software Update Failed error
There is no specific or concrete solution available to fix the “Software Update Failed” error for now. But there are some workaround that you may try to successfully update to iOS 9:
- Be Patient: Tap on the Close button when the Update Failed error appears. Wait for a few minutes and try again. This has helped some of the lucky users fix the error. Such error usually occurs due to millions of users try to download the update simultaneously and the servers become overloaded.
- Reboot your iOS device.
- Reset your network settings by going into Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
- Update through iTunes: Nothing worked for you? try updating to iOs 9 using iTunes. Download iOS 9 IPSW file for your device and then follow our guide on how to install iOS 9 using iTunes.
