Over the past few months, Apple has been rumored to be working to a 4-inch variant of iPhone 6 but some report claimed no such device in the works. In a recent report, Timothy Arcuri, an analyst at Cowen and Company claims that Apple had plans to launch a 4-inch iPhone 5s sized variant of iPhone 6 with a metallic body, but later scrapped the idea.
it has been rumored lately that Apple is working on a 4-inch metallic iPhone dubbed as iPhone 6c which will look like an iPhone 6 and will be launched alongside next generation iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus models.
Information gathered by Arcuri from sources and supply chain research indicates that the scrapped device was set to have a look and feel like the iPhone 6, with same internal hardware, but with a screen of 4-inch in size as found on iPhone 5s, 5c and 5.
Arcuri also claims that he has seen envidences of smaller sized iPhone model in Apple’s suppy chain fdurng the months of January to March. But traces of the device disappeared ater that which suggests that Apple may have scrapped the smaller iPhone 6 variant plans.
Here’s is what Arcuri speculation on why Applewould have killed a smaller sized iPhone 6:
“I think one of the reasons is because the iPhone 6 has sold so well,” Arcuri said. “And they said, ‘Look, why would we want to cannibalize? If we came out with an iPhone 6C, we would essentially cannibalize a price-reduced iPhone 6.”
While Apple’s move to launch iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus with larger display was a long-coming for many customers, some were disappointed that Apple did not refreshed its 4-inch iPhone lineup. Rumors that Apple will launch an iPhone 5s sized iPhone 6c since the tail-end of 2014.
Arcuri report is in line with a recent report which claimed that Apple won’t be launching a smaller sized iPhone 6c in 2015. Another report suggested that an iPhone 7c with 4-inch screen size will be launched in 2016.
iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c are the only devices that Apple offers in 4-inch dsplay size, it is highly likely that iPhone 5s will become the entry-level smartphone from Apple when the Phone 6s is launched later this year.
