As reported yesterday that a cheaper 8GB iPhone 5c model will be available today, Apple has launched 8GB iPhone 5c model in UK and some other European countries. The unlocked 8GB iPhone 5c model is available in Uk for £429, which is £40 cheaper than the 16GB iPhone 5c. Fortune’s Philip Elmer-DeWitt reports that Apple has confirmed that the cheaper 8GB iPhone 5c will be only available in the UK, France, Germany, Australia, and China.
Other than the above mentioned countries, the cheaper 8GB iPhone 5c won’t be available anywhere else. Of course, this could change if the device does well in those countries.
In a press release Apple has officially relaunched the retina display iPad 4, replacing the iPad 2 as the entry level iPad model. The device has gone on sale in the UK and some other European countries.
From Apple’s press release:
“Now for $399 customers can get iPad with a stunning 9.7-inch Retina display, fast A6X chip, and 5MP iSight camera, offering a dramatic upgrade in power, performance and value compared to the iPad 2 it replaces,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The iPad line sets the gold-standard in mobile computing and all iPads have access to the largest and best ecosystem of more than 500,000 iPad optimized apps from the App Store.”
With the launch of iPad Air and Retina iPad mini 2, Apple had discontinued the iPad 4 while surprised the audience by continue offering the iPad 2. Everyone had been expecting Apple to discontinue iPad 2 and discount the iPad 4 back then.
With this relaunch, the entry level iPad 4 WiFi will be available for $399, and an iPad 4 16GB (Cellular) will cost $529. Smart cases and smart covers are also available for the iPad 4 costing $39 and $49 respectively.
