BlackBerry has started sending invites to a small number of users via BlackBerry Beta Zone to test out the iOS and Android version of their BBM messaging app, reports BlackBerryOS.com.

BlackBerryOS notes that the BBM for iPhone will only support iOS 6 or later version, while Android users will be required to be running Ice Cream Sandwich. The program is not yet available to everyone.

Below you can see the email that BlackBerry has sent to select users along with some screenshots of BBM app running on an Android device. BBM for iOS is also expected to offer similar user interface.

BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins has promised the availability of BBM for iOS and Android ‘before the end of Summer’.

With the IM market crowded with apps like Apple’s iMessage, Google’s Hangouts, Whatsapp and Viber, it will be challenging for BBM to penetrate into the market.
