Notes

  • iPhone can send both SMS and iMessages. So, using iPhone you can send contact card using either SMS or iMessage. That means you can send a contact card (vCard) from iPhone to another iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac user, or any other kind of smartphone user.
  • iPad and iPod Touch can only send iMessage. So, from iPod Touch and iPad, you can only send contact card to another iMessage user.
  • Sharing contact card using iMessage shares the entire vCard, that could include more personal information that you don not wanna share. For example, sharing your own vCard may include all your Siri relationships. So, if you do NOT want to share all the information, it is advised to have a duplicate contact with less vCard details.

If the message bubble color is blue, it was sent using iMessage. If it is green, it was sent using regular SMS/MMS, because may be the other person is not using iMessage, or iMessage was unavailable.

Bagilu, I use an IOS app called Contact Sheet that lets me create a group of multiple contacts and send just the fields I want to send. The nice thing about this is that I can include the notes field if I want to (for whatever reason Apple does not include this) or I can leave off fields–for example, I might not want to include phone numbers, just email addresses. There used to be another app that was similar but it seems to have disappeared.
