Set Google Maps as Default Maps App on iOS with MapsOpener

Apple replaced Google maps in iOS 6 with its in-house mapping solution. Google Maps app, after a few months of removal from iOS, is now available in the app store for download. But problem still remains – Apple’s maps app still remains the default maps app in iOS. Fortunately, you can set Google Maps as default maps app in iOS. Hit the jump to learn more…

Thanks to a new jailbreak tweak named ‘MapsOpener‘ that forces all maps links to open up in Google Maps app instead of apple’s stock maps app.

Once you have installed MapsOpener on your iPhone, all maps links from a browser will open in Google Maps, it even works with links to directions, planning out a route upon opening the link. However, this jailbreak tweak falls short when it comes to adress handling from within contacts app.

This simple tweak makes Google Maps links open in the new App Store app rather than the built in iOS app on iOS 5 and earlier or the Google Maps website on iOS 6.

No icons are added to the home screen. There are no screenshots.

MapsOpener is available in Cydia via Big Boss repo, which means your iPhone must already be jailbroken. From a jailbroken iPhone open up Cydia and search for ‘MapsOpener”. It’s available for free.
