Apple has announced that the Apple app store has now surpassed 25 billion downloads since its launch in mid-2008. Apple home page has been updated with a photo of apps which reads: “A billion thanks. 25 times over”.
The person who downloaded the 25 Billionth app, who is yet to be announced, will receive a $10,000 gift card courtesy of Apple. Before this Apple had run a competition to mark its 10 billionth apps downloads. A UK woman won the $10,000 gift card while downloading a free game called Paper Glider, the winner initially hung up on Cue, thinking it was a scam call.
Since January 2011, 15 billion apps has been downloaded which is a very impressive rate. Apple is speculated to hit 50 billion apps download mark this year considering the release of iPad 3 and iPhone 5 in the coming few months.
