Geohot, the popular iPhone hacker who also hacked Sony PlayStation, has quit his job at Facebook, and now back to hacking, according to BusinessInsider.
GeoHot was spotted competing with bunch of people on developing a app in a hackathon at Backplane, a startup funded by Lady Gaga.
During the hackathon, I got to work with him as he built an app that allows you to see where your Facebook friends are on a map. Aviv Ovadya, a Quora engineer, was also on the team. Ovadya focused on the front end mapping part of the program. Hotz was focused on getting the API info and programming that into location data.
He didn’t win, and lost out to a group of high school students. But that’s not important. What’s important here is that GeoHot might be back in the jailbreak scene, and who knows, he might even already be cooking new bootrom exploits for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.
GeoHot is the father of iPhone unlocking. He developed jailbreak tools such as Purplera1n, Blackra1n and Limera1n. He had also released BlackSn0w unlock.
