iPod Touch 5G to Get 3G Data Connectivity [Rumor]

With the Next generation iDevices expected in September, the rumors of the iPod Touch 5G have started emerging. A report from Dutch blog AppleSpot.nl claims a 3G enabled iPod Touch 5G.

Here’s a translated version of what AppleSpot.nl posted:

It will work just like the iPad; you get a 3G enabled simcard from your provider and put that in you iPod Touch. Apple’s choice of bringing 3G to the iPod Touch isn’t all that weird, if it’s true of course. Question remains how the providers will react to this, since the use of for example Skype will skyrocket.

The iPod Touch 4G can do almost everything an iPhone can; it does Games, internet surfing, music, and videos. However, it’s seriously lacking in the connectivity department: It works only with WiFi hotspots and does not connect to cellular networks.

An iPod Touch with 3G connectivity makes a lot of sense, however, AppleSpot.nl provides little details about the 3G feature and blog’s track record is literally non-existen, so this canot be taken as-is.

9to5Mac suggests that if Apple adds “the GPS/3G baseband chips and some phone wiring and a solid 3 megapixel camera and you are 99 percent of the way to an iPhone lite”.

Would you like to have an iPod Touch with 3G connectivity or the WiFi-only version is enough for you? Let us know the comments below…

I definitely would love it if the iPod touch had 3G but I don’t think it will ever happen because there would be no reason for anyone to buy an iPhone.
