Fix Battery Drain After iPhone 3GS/3G Baseband 06.15.00 Unlock with UltraSn0w 1.2 - iPhoneHeat

Fix Battery Drain After iPhone 3GS/3G Baseband 06.15.00 Unlock with UltraSn0w 1.2

Dev-Team released PwnageTool and Redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 and update iPhone 3GS/3G baseband to 06.15.00 which is unlockable with UltraSn0w 1.2. However, many users are reporting poor battery performance after the jailbreak/unlock.

According to Sherrif Hashim:

On a very important side note, before anyone starts to complain about battery drainage issues after installing the new ultrasn0w on the 6.15.00 updated BB, the culprit here is not ultrasn0w, it’s the hacktivation process (activating the phone by pwnagetool or redsn0w rather than using an official carrier sim to do so) that u mostly did while jailbreaking.

The 4.1 and 4.2.1 ipsws unlike their old ancestors, seem to keep looking for valid push certificates all the time, either thru your wifi, or thru your cellular data network (which u only have after installing ultrasn0w and hence u accuse it) , this can be seen clearly if u have a cellular working data plan for 3g or edge and u watched the settings > general > usage > cellular network data (sent & received are continuously increasing even without using any internet traffics on the phone) , this will also render the phone going hot even in stand by mode and also very rapid battery drainage occurs plus consuming ur data if you were not on an unlimited plan.

How to Fix Battery Drain After iPhone 3GS/3G Baseband 06.15.00 Unlock

While an official fix for battery drain issue is currently being worked on OUT Now (See C below), you can try the solutions listed below to fix the battery drain problem.

A) try to activate the phone using the official sim if u have it (even if the sim itself is old and not working) , or borrow it from a friend if it’s possible, by any means, try to have an access to one and use it.

B) if A is not feasible, u can install SBsettings from featured cydia packages and turn wifi and data off when u r not using it (shuts down both 3g and edge) , till C is done

C) there is a very nice module being worked on by a trusted jailbreak app dev, namely @sbingner, which will resolve that issue for those having it, the details of which shouldn’t be disclosed until he finishes his awesome work, till then, either use A or B to resolve the issue if it exists for you. Excellent news. In fact I’m not in 6.15.00 but installed the ultrasn0w update and this battery issue occurred since the upgrade. My question is only one…must I use the original SIM (option A since I have it) every time I reboot my 3GS ?

Any idea on the timeframe for the fix?? I know that app dev can be unpredictable at times, but just trying to get an idea. Is it a complicated fix, or will it be months.

What about GPS problem?

marc December 6, 2010, 3:53 am

Sure, is a apple trap for dev-Team, that’s why they have leave the ipad firmware 3.2.2 with baseband 06.15.00.
To teach a lesson to all users who rely on the dev-team.

I’ll be honest, I think that I agree with you.
I mean come on, maybe this was the solution the whole time because they cannot find a crash in the 05.14.02 BB (correct that if the BB was wrong). it seems like apple would do this. “They want an unlock? Fine, we’ll let them have it, see how they like no more warranty.”

Overall though, iPhones are well put together products so there shouldn’t be problems. My 3GS for example, pristine condition and not a single problem and it’s 8 months old. But for the guys who have defective units and updated their BB to 06.15.00, I wish you luck 😉

Hey guys I’m on 3gs new bootroom 4.2.1 on simple mobile service which is mvno tmobile.

This fix worked for me hopefully it will for you. I went ahead and completed the bingner update choose at&t as my carrier keep in mind I did not activate using a at&t sim everything activated fine for me in sam.

The real problem is your email exchange accounts or social networking/music apps that run the background. With that said go to your mail exchange account or accounts and turn them OFF all of them I’m not talking about push notifications turn the mail account OFF.

Now delete all music and social networking apps that run in the background yahoo facebook pandora etc. Now open your mail app to make sure there is no connections. Do a hard reboot after the reboot turn your mail accounts back on and reinstall your apps.

The problem is during the update the mail client or apps don’t fully restore and they keep trying to connect to a bad certificate.

Hope this fix works for you!

Hello. Did you ever get a answer for this?

Sebastian December 8, 2010, 10:17 pm

Hello,
I’m using a jb and unlocked 3GS, old bootrom, 4.26.8 BB and 3.1.2 FW.
I want to upgrade to 4.2.1 but I am confused with this unlocking situation.
If I use custom FW, activate my phone with official SIM, unlock with ultrasnow 1.2, I will face the same problems with battery drain etc?

thank you

Creaper December 11, 2010, 10:15 am

i have been trying to fix my data usage and battery drain problem for thhe last few days , but no matter what tut i followed its never worked(Redsnow b6 deactivate), still kept using data, so i restored to 4.1 bb 6.15 removed sim, jailbroke with limera1n, installed SAM & Sam prefs,Restarted, Selected carrier where my cell phone is lock to
( in SAM), activated with itunes, installed ultrasnow, then inserted sim, NO data being used at all and battery drainage prob;em gone…..ever other tut i tried never worked (data was still being used) hopefully this helps anyone with the same problem i had

s. December 15, 2010, 2:31 pm

Thanks for sharing, sounds like my last chance. How do I go about restoring back to 4.1 from 4.2.1 though?

Creaper December 16, 2010, 6:47 am

Open tinyumberla click save shsh once done click start TSS server open iTunes shift click restore then select iOS 4.1 click restore you will get error 1015 which is just a baseband error go back to tinyumberla on the left there will be a list of divices click iPhone then click on kick divide out of recovery if you have questions email [email protected]

Creaper December 16, 2010, 6:49 am

But of course you must have shsh saved for 4.1
