After the big announcement of iPhone OS 4.0 jailbreak, here comes another hacker named cdevwill who managed to enable multitasking on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G running iPhone OS 4.0.
This what the cdevwill has tweeted about enabling multitasking in iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G OS 4.0:
wow looks like multitasking can be enabled on the 3G if you just set multitasking=TRUE on the capabilities plist in SB (N82AP.plist)
Apple announced the iPhone OS 4.0 yesterday with great new features including multitasking, iBooks, Unified inbox and much more. Checkout the complete list of features. But then Apple broke the iPhone 3G and iPod 2G users heart by announcing no multitasking in both devices. Apple disabled the multitasking in both iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G due to lack of sufficient amount of RAM.
cdevwill edited the N82AP.plist file, one of the two main files in System Dir, and set the multitasking variable from FALSE to TRUE. By doing this he enabled multitasking in iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G OS 4.0. We are not sure but we think you need to jailbreak your iDevice to access those files. We will keep you posted as there comes an update. via cdevwill

You don’t need a jailbreak for it. Just download iPhone Explorer (also works with iPod touch) and go into the SpringBoard.app and it’s in there.
