Apple has started offering iPhone 3GS and 3G without AT&T contract via Apple Stores across US. Now with this new policy, anyone can walk into an Apple store and can get an iPhone 3G 8Gb for $499, iPhone 3GS 16GB for $599 and iPhone 3GS 32GB model for $699.
These sales are limited to one iPhone per person each day with a max of 10 iPhones per person.
Effective immediately, customers purchasing iPhone as device only at full price are no longer required to have an AT&T account or provide a form of ID. Device only full price iPhone sales are limited to one per person per day.
The iPhones will still be locked to AT&T’s network and will be shipped with latest baseband which is not unlockable yet. But once the unlock is out, it take a few seconds to unlock iPhone and use it with any carrier SIM.

At that price they should come with the factory unlock. It’s basically the same price as what I paided a year ago when I spent $199 on the Iphone 3G 8G, $130 for a month of service and $180 to break the contract. I think you can get a 8G 3G for $99 now so it’s cheaper to buy the phone with the contract and break it than it is to buy it without the contract.
looks like now the early termination fee is 325$ minus 10$ for each month of use. So the 99$ base price + 325$ termination fee + one month usage fee 75$ = 500$ same as what we get at apple store for new without any hassles.
