Qik’s First iPhone App Hits the App Store

After nearly a year of underground development, Folks at Qik has finally announced that their official iPhone App is now in App Store.

For those unfamiliar with the company, Applications like Qik enable you to stream videos of entertaining and special moments with your family and friends on Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, etc directly from your mobile phone. Viewers of the Live streaming can send messages to the streamer who will receive those message on his iPhone, allowing an interactive experience on both ends.

Unfortunately, due to Apple (or AT&T to be specific) restriction, you can only upload videos using Qik for iPhone from your Camera Roll to the Qik’s website over Wi-Fi only. or if your recorde the video using Qik app, it will be automatically start uploading it to Qik website. So it’s just a capture and upload app at the moment that can’t broadcast live videos.

Using the iPhone camera app, you can share videos via e-mail, MMS, MobileMe, and YouTube. Qik on the other hand is currently the only iPhone 3GS app that allows you to share video using e-mail, SMS, Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook, as well as Web sites and your favorite blogging platforms, including Blogger, Tumblr, and WordPress

Qik is only supported with iPhone 3GS as it has the camera that can record videos.

Qik had released their iPhone App for jailbreak iPhones back in August last year, which not broadcasts live videos but also works over 3G and Wi-Fi and is not limited to iPhone 3GS. Jailbroken iPhone 3G and 2G owners can also enjoy that app.

Due to the current limitations of the iPhone app, I’m sure the unofficial iPhone app for jailbroken iPhones will continue to be popular as it is way better.

Qik for iPhone is available in App Store for Free.
