How to Capture iPhone 3GS iBEC and iBSS Files to Secure Future Jailbreak (Windows)

If you’re an iPhone 3GS user and want to jailbreak or unlock iPhone 3GS then this iPhone guide is of great importance for you.

iPhone Dev-Team has asked iPhone 3GS users to prepare for upcoming  jailbreak. To jailbreak iPhone 3GS you need to capture iBEC and iBSS files.  Lets Learn how to save iBEC and iBSS files for your iPhone 3GS jailbreak.

IMPORTANT

In this process, you MUST use iPhone OS 3.0. As iPhone-Dev Team has warned, you MUST stay away from iPhone OS 3.1 and also the Beta release.

NOTE

We are writing the capturing of iBEC and iBSS file using Simple restore and then again using DFU Mode restore. But most of the users are able to capture iBEC and iBSS files through DFU Mode. If you want to try it just through DFU Mode then skip Step 5 through 7.

Now your iPhone Restore Process will begin. A confirmation box will appear, just hit Restore.

Step 6
During the Restore process, keep an eye on the Temp folder we have opened. A new folder will appear with a name Per****.tmp (for example: Per518D.tmp). When the folder appears, select it, then press Ctrl+C to copy it to the clipboard.

**Remember you only have a limited time to do this as the folder will be removed very shortly. It seems like a new folder will pop into the %TEMP% directly three times during the DFU restore. You need to capture the first one that appears.

If you already have your ECID code using the USB view, do you need these certificates?

iPhone Heat July 9, 2009, 1:01 pm

Yes. You should get your iBEC and iBSS files generated during restores in Recovery and DFU modes. Musclenerd and Planetbeing both clarified that we should have these, in addition to the purplera1n file.

FROM MUSCLENERD:
– “purplera1n file isn’t ecid..it’s iBSS signed with your ECID. Each file has separate result. iBSS is important, so too is iBEC”
– “iBEC is a little more useful for crossing security epochs because both legit iBoot and legit IBSS accept it.”

FROM PLANETBEING:
– “Belated clarification: still need to either ra1n, USB dump, or copy tmp. Tmp is just easier than USB and doesn’t scream to Apple you jb.”
– “If you already used purplera1n you are prolly safe for jb, though you cannot restore to totally stock 3.0 without all files (not just ibss)”
– “ra1n only gets you the part that would be unique to your phone, not the whole thing with the code.”

iPhone Heat July 13, 2009, 3:51 pm

during the restore process..
keep refreshing Temp folder because the folder that appears stays for a short time.

FreePass July 14, 2009, 1:04 pm

I’ve done already 6-7 restores and every single one is giving me iBEC files, not the iBSS….and every time I captured the first temp folder that appears.

iPhone Heat July 14, 2009, 3:23 pm

@FreePass
by the way are you trying it on iPhone 3GS ? 😀

FreePass July 14, 2009, 5:06 pm

I am stuck like Free pass but this is my Iphone 3GS. I am loading 3.0.1 not 3.0 but defiantly not 3.1. My problem is I think I am in DFU mode. Itunes says im in recovery mode, and I get the IBEC file. I am pretty sure when I first did the standard recovery that is where I got the IBEC file also. Im so confused and it takes for ever. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Am I just screwing things up? Where is the IBSS file?

Thank you
