thanks, worked perfectly.
my sim is from China mobile, no connection only wireless
when do you post the appropriate basband?
Daniel

Peter June 21, 2009, 12:13 pm

In step 1 you write:

“Connect your iPhone 3G to your PC”

Then in step 6 you write:

“Connect your iPhone via USB and make sure its Turned OFF.”

So we’re supposed to connect the iPhone to the computer in both steps 1 and 6. In which step did we disconnect the iPhone? From you instructions, the iPhone will ALREADY be connected to the computer when we begin step 6.

Peter June 21, 2009, 12:35 pm

Wow! It appears to have worked. I see Cydia. Neat!

My iPhone appears to be in a fresh factory state — no applications, no contacts, nothing. Tabula Rasa. I’d like to restore my music, applications, calendar, etc.

When I run iTunes, I see the following options:

1. Set up as new iPhone
2. Restore from the backup of: XXXX

which one do I choose?

iPhone Heat June 21, 2009, 1:47 pm

@ Peter
Thanks for pointing out the confusing statements.
Step 6 is corrected now..

If you have a backup… then use that option..

Knight_PR June 21, 2009, 2:10 pm

If you have the “fabulous” Windows Vista you may encounter problems trying to run redsnow. Redsnow can get stuck at the “waiting for reboot” screen. If this happens to you you have to do the following:

1) Click on Properties

2)Switch to Compatibility tab on the top.

3) Check ” Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP ”

4) Start the application by right clicking on redsn0w. exe file and click on run as administrator

@ Gibb

Download the OS file using Firefox Or IE… and ipsw is not the file name.. It’s the extension like:

iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

Gibb June 22, 2009, 4:17 pm

Thanks, worked perfect, didn’t realise what I had been missing out on !

Mikee June 22, 2009, 6:50 pm

This worked great and gave me back my iPhone with OS 3. Only thing is I don’t get any cover from a cell provider, so more of an iPod Touch than iPhone now. Can this be fixed?

XmasBlood June 22, 2009, 6:50 pm

I’m stuck in ” Waiting the device to reboot ” , I have switch the Redsnow to be compatible with Windows XP (SP2) . Run as Admin . It still stucks . Please help . I’m using vista

Marki June 23, 2009, 2:20 am

Thanks anyway.

Jim June 28, 2009, 12:53 am

I have done all the steps as explain in the print screen but my iphone is not rebooting and is no more recognised by itunes.

What may cause this issue?

iPhone Heat June 28, 2009, 11:35 am

@ Jim…
Make sure you have iTunes 8.2…
then try.. if no luck..

Then put your iPhone into DFU mode then try..
if still out of luck..

Then try on another system..
this one worked for me ..

iPhone Heat June 28, 2009, 11:35 am

@ Tater & Brian..
You both try the above mentioned solution

jhong27 June 28, 2009, 12:07 pm

which 1 is the correct ipsw for iphone 3G caz this page reffering iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw to download but from the link

(can also be downloaded from iPhone Firmwares) it refferes OS 3.0 3G
(2nd Gen) iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw now … when I have clicked that started downloading a different file named 2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

the first files size is 297 MB second file is 230.75 MB I have tried the first one already but when I did (shift + restore) and open the ipsw it replied error msg that not compatible ! now downloading the second 1 lets he what happens …

iPhone Heat July 2, 2009, 12:24 pm

@imraan
at both places file is same.. size is same..
I think you’re trying to download 3G S firmware from All in one post which has 298MB size. You should download firmware for 3G (2nd Gen)

Download the firmware from the link available in this guide..

A.J. July 2, 2009, 11:18 pm

everything work fine…..but I can’t find installous

……it does not appear un cydia….. what application use that is the same that installous??

danielhart July 3, 2009, 11:43 pm

when i download red snow and extract it it gives me all this crap about the file already exist and when i open the xipped folder i can access red snow what am i doing wrong here?

Bash July 4, 2009, 12:36 am

Clear, straightforward instructions. Tells you how to upgrade from 2.2.x to 3.0 and then jailbreak. Make sure you backup your iphone from 2.2.x before going through these steps using iTunes. Also, get the latest version of iTunes (i.e. 8.2 to date). Also, remind yourself where the home and power off keys are on yhour iphone if you have just got your device recently, before beginning.

WOWSHIT July 5, 2009, 8:42 am

Just wanted to tell everyone, after many attempts of failing(including black screen after the ‘waiting for reboot’ and a black screen after ‘done’) i had gotten it to work.

This may not work for everyone else, but i did this by running the redsn0w program again without closing the first.

The second program caused my iphone to continue with the jailbreaking process and it finished quickly. The first program then uploaded the ramdata, etc., which had never happened before. Now, i finally have cydia installed.. after trying at least a hundred motherflipping times!

So the summary for those who have tried everything to update their 3.0 OS but failed: Run the program a second time. Hopefully it will work for you all. Good luck!

Gabriel July 6, 2009, 9:14 am

I have just done jailbreak on Iphone 3G. I can’t get signal with Orange SIM. What do I do next?

iPhone Heat July 9, 2009, 9:42 pm

@ lazlear
After jailbreak you need to unlock your iPhone 3G with UltraSn0w:
http://www.iphoneheat.com/2009/06/how-to-unlock-iphone-3g-os-30-with-ultrasn0w/

Aly July 10, 2009, 2:47 am

I have upgraded to 3.0 and trying to jailbreak my 3G iphone and have tried all the steps mentioned here. I have downloaded the right ISPW file (iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw file) but still i am getting the unable to recognise the ISPW file. Please help!!!

iPhone Heat July 10, 2009, 4:27 pm

@ Aly
Restore step is not essential. It just helps in restoring the wasted space on your iPhone.
If you’re already on OS 3.0. Go ahead directly to RedSn0w steps..

Gone Dare July 11, 2009, 1:37 pm

It worked perfectly people.
Just follow da instructions exactly
THANK YOU DEVTEAM

Enjoy

iPhone Heat July 20, 2009, 5:04 pm

@ Wajahat
you’re using the wrong ipsw file see the Bold part:
iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Custom_Restore

but the Firmware available in this guide is:
iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore

So download the file from this guide and use it to restore your iPhone then run the RedSn0w

kim gooch July 24, 2009, 1:35 am

in the process of jailbreaking the last thing reported was

applemobiledevice: unexpected DFU state during manifest: 2, status: 7
waiting for reboot.

just wondering how long this process takes or if something has went wrong? Its been over an hour.

kim gooch July 24, 2009, 1:58 am

well, the phone is black and will not turn on. it only completed 99% and stayed at the same message applemobiledevice: unexpected DFU state during manifest: 2,status: 7

now what can i do to get the phone up and running again???

iPhone Heat July 24, 2009, 4:05 am

@ Kim Gooch
Are you running a Virtual Machine? Try rebooting it, or if you’re on a normal computer, try rebooting it.

bob July 25, 2009, 8:06 pm

is there any chance of this going wrong and my phone becoming a useless brick as the horror stories go?

bob July 25, 2009, 9:01 pm

alright, i am dumb and need help.
i’m trying to download said files. i got the mirror 1 and the ipsw file.
i have unzipped both but still don’t have the files as pictured in your example of “redsnow” desktop file.

what am i doing wrong. i downloaded them with internet explorer.

thanks, bob

Deathbomb July 12, 2010, 3:52 am

Ok, the firmware should be an IPSW and it downloaded as a zip. Simply edit the filename so it says .IPSW not .zip

bob July 25, 2009, 11:21 pm

i got it all and am going to unlock my new iphone!!!!!
Simply outstanding! thanks to all the hard work dev team!!!!

bob

John Adams September 3, 2009, 12:53 am

I’ve completed the jailbreak, downloaded something in Cydia, then restarted my phone and I got stuck on that stupid Apple logo!!! I was on it for three hours waiting for my iPhone to reboot but nothing happens. Finally I found out I had to hold down my “home” button(the button with the square on it on the face of the phone) and plug in my iPhone with iTunes open in order to restore my phone to factory. The jailbreak is useless anyway.. For the 15 minutes I had it, I did nothing with it. There are maybe three useful apps with the jailbreak anyway?

iPhone Heat September 3, 2009, 1:06 am

@ John

Now I suppose that you’re already @ OS 3.0.
Put your iPhone into DFU Mode and then run the RedSn0w..
It should be working

John Adams September 3, 2009, 1:22 am

I’m trying it again. As I said before though, the jailbraeak works just fine. Everything loads perfectly and my phone reboots initially. It’s just after that, when I try to restart my phone for any reason, I’m stuck on the apple logo.. Not the pineapple one, just the apple one and my phone turns into a brick.

iPhone Heat September 3, 2009, 7:35 pm

@ John
Did you install any application after jailbreak?
or it’s stuck right after jailbreak.. you install nothing?

Stuck September 6, 2009, 2:20 pm

Guys I have the signal problem too, I was able to jailbreak phone but was not able to get any signal once this was done. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!! I did the reset all network settings and it didnt work either.

Eno1 September 8, 2009, 4:08 am

I did all the steps and after redsn0w finishes through the iphone stays frozen on the downloading data screen with the harddrive on it….. Now my phone is a brick and it will not do anything, it will not even turn on anymore it just goes to the apple then just goes to a black screen.

iPhone Heat September 8, 2009, 6:43 am

@ Eno1
put your iPhone into DFU mode and then restore your iPhone

alan September 10, 2009, 4:16 am

hi i have 3g 16gb 3.0.1 firmware. can i unlock this version?

thanks

iPhone Heat October 6, 2009, 6:19 pm

@ amir
yes you can
supposing u r @ 3.0.1
just use the RedSn0w..
and when it asks for firmware file provide the OS 3.0 instead of 3.0.1 (This is the tricky part
rest of the guide is same)

GPV October 7, 2009, 7:46 pm

Can we still upgrade to OS 3.0.1?… I heard that iTunes was blocking any attempt to upgrade to anything lower that 3.1.

Is this true?. My iPhone 3G has OS 2.1

Thanks.

iPhone Heat October 7, 2009, 11:35 pm

@ GPV
yes you canjust download OS 3.0.1. Press the Shift button and hit restore button in iTunes. It will ask for the firmware file..

Amigadesiempre October 12, 2009, 7:20 am

I have unlocked my iphone and all was working fine until I went to itunes to remove some apps and checked for updates and accidently downloaded 3.1 and now my phone is not functioning at all. I did the redsnow instructions and that is all fine, however, my baseband has been upgraded and I want to know how to either downgrade or upgrade the software to meet the baseband for operation. Can anyone help me?

iPhoneHeat October 29, 2009, 10:22 pm

Zahur November 6, 2009, 2:29 pm

After you restore under itune, did you close itunes the run Redsnow ??
Having done it, when i selest the files under redsnow, i have: redsn0w unable to recognize specified ipsw.

Why ???
My phone is the 1st generation 2G iphone.

My Cydia is not working! It’s stuck on the “Loading Data…” thing and automatically pops back out to the home page. How do i go about removing it and installing it again? Everything else is perfectly fine, like Jailbroken and unlocked… =(

Please Help!

I did all the step that you gave here. All went well. But I couldn’t find Cydia or Installer on my iPhone, which is kind of weird. Later on when I use iFunbox, I found out that my iPhone is not jailbroken yet.. How come? I don’t get it.
Please help!

I did all the step correctly and all went well. But, I couldn’t find Cydia or Installer on my iPhone afterwards, which is weird. Later on when I use iFunbox, I found out that my iPhone is not jailbroken yet. I don’t understand.. Because right after I jailbroke it, I could see that there was a difference on my voicemail section.
Please help!!!
