Today, MacRumors received a tip from a developer that he found a single instance of iPhone OS 4.0 being used in his application’s Pinch Media analytics data.

iPhone OS 3.1.3 may release very soon and is expected to be a minor firmware update and bug fixes but on the other hand iPhone Firmware 4.0 would be a major release and is expected to be shipped with the next-gen iPhone the coming Summer.

There is no info on iPhone OS 4.0 features but it’ll surely brought us more features just like iPhone firmware 3.0 did.

From the logs, we can only tell about the existence of iPhone firmware 3.1.3 but there’s no info about the features. One thing is for sure that major features can only be found in OS 4.0. iPhone 3.1.3 firmware will just bring bug fixes. There are reports that MMS feature has been enabled for AT&T users but is buggy and hanging before the MMS is successfully sent.

iPhone Dev-Team warns all the iPhone users using UltraSn0w hack to stay away from any new Firmware including iPhone OS 3.1 Beta. Because updating firmware results in updated Baseband firmware so you lose your Unlock. Cut, Copy and Paste with ‘shake to Undo’

Text can be selected automatically by double tapping on text and movable grab points appear with a ‘cut, copy and paste’ edit bar above selection. You can copy text across applications.

Landscape Keyboard

This is what a jailbroken iPhone may already have but now in upcoming iPhone OS 3.0, a landscape keyboard is a built-in feature available in key applications, including Mail.

MMS

Along with sending multimedia stuff via email, in upcoming iPhone OS 3.0, iPhone 3G users will be able to send MMS messages too. (Sorry, iPhone 1st Gen users). iPhone users will also be able to delete and forward multiple messages.

Tethering is not yet announced for iPhone OS 3. During Q&A session tethering question was addressed by saying: We’re supporting tethering in the client side, we’re building that support in. We’re working with our carriers around the world. We are building that support in.

Cydia and installer are two third party applications that you can install while Jailbreaking your iPhone. These are much like Apple App Store, but Cydia also allows you to install all those applications that are restricted from App Store distribution. On the other hand, Applications installed via Cydia are not that reliable as that of Apple App Store.

Tethering

Using Tethering feature, you can use internet on your PC or Laptop via bridging with iPhone. On the iPhone OS 3.0 preview day, Apple promised this feature in an future update of the OS. To use this feature, you need to connect your iPhone to your PC via USB/WiFi, run the applications on both iPhone and the PC. and enjoy your iPhone internet connection on your PC.

SSH

SSH stands for Secure SHell.

It is just a protocol that allows you to access your iPhone or  iPod Touch from your desktop PC or MAC and execute commands on it (thus allowing you to copy any kind of data to and from the iPhone or  iPod Touch without iTunes). It’s also used for a lot of customization things if you know what you’re doing.

You can use a program like Cyberduck on MAC or WinSCP on Windows and you can browse your iPhone or iPod Touch  like any other hard drive and explore it’s content (which can be very interesting).
