Leaked iOS 11 Firmware Reveals Apple to unveil iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X on Sept 12

The recent iOS 11 GM firmware leak has bombarded the internet with iPhone 8 details and what Apple is going to unveil at September 12th event. And now we think we also know the exact names of the iPhone models the company is going to introduce. The leaked firmware contains references to three new iPhone models called iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are going to be the low-tier successors of the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Whereas the 10th anniversary iPhone model with an OLED display and bezel-less design is going to be the iPhone X. This leak of Apple device naming is part of the leaks chain resulted due to the leaked iOS 11 GM.

While it still is not 100% set in stone, it is still by far the best indicator that these names are going to be used while unveiling new iPhone models on September 12. A few weeks ago a rumor suggested that a case-maker had received intel about Apple naming its devices as iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone Edition. It seems that 2/3 of that story was correct

iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus is expected to be modest upgrades over the current iPhone 7 models. These two upcoming models are expected to retain the similar design and form factor with back switched to glass for wireless charging support. Other than that these two devices will be powered by an A11 chip.

The ‘iPhone X’ is what most of us were calling the iPhone 8. An iPhone with a major redesign, 5.8-inch OLED display with bezel-free front and back made of glass. It is expected to be slightly larger than the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 model. The top end of the front side is going to have a notch design to house earpiece, front camera, and 3D sensor.

Other reported feature of iPhone X includes Face ID for facial scanning with no Touch ID, upgraded dual camera sensor capable of 4K videos @60fps and OIS on both, wireless charging, and more. The display of this high-end model is also believed to support True Tone and a 3D sensor to recognize if the user is looking at the device or not. When the user is looking at the device, the iPhone X will not dim the brightness.

This new 3D sensor will enable bring a new type of communication to the stock Messages application, called Animoji. These Animoji are the emojis created using the 3D sensor and will mirror user’s own expressions and use your voice.

Other than the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X, Apple is also expected to launch an LTE enabled Apple Watch and a 4K Apple TV on September 12th.
