Analyst Predicts Apple to Start Building its own Power Management Chip for iPhones by 2019

Since the Year 2010, Apple has been designing its own in-house mobile chips for all the iOS devices that the company released to date. Apple is also expected to make its own GPUsfor the mobile devices. But one analyst believes that, in the coming two years, the fruit company will also start building its own power management chips as well.

Apple’s been designing mobile chips for iOS devices in-house since 2010 and could soon be making its own GPUs as well. But one analyst predicts that the California company is set to build its own iPhone power management chips, too, within two years.

Bloomberg reports that Karsten Iltgen, an analyst from German investment bank Bankhaus Lampe, says in a note to the clients onTuesday that there is a “strong evidence” that Apple is working on its own power-management integrated circuits solution that will effectively replace the chip made by Dialog Semiconductor “at least in part”.

It’s highly likely that Apple is gonna make this shift to its in-house power management solution in the short-term. But, Dialog’s market share has seen a sharp decline and hit their lowest price in over 16 years following analyst’s prediction that the company could lose Apple as its key buyer by 2019.

Lampe believes that the Cupertino company is settings up design centers for the power-management solution in Munich and California. It’s worth mentioning here that Dialog’s single-chip solution helps in decreasing the power consumption of a mobile device by up to 30 percent.

“We hear from the industry that about 80 engineers at Apple are already working on a power-management integrated circuit with specific plans to employ it in the iPhone by as early as 2019,” reads the analyst’s note.

Starting with iPhone 6s, which was released back in 2015, Apple started using fewer chips on the logic board to improve the overall power consumption of the device. It started using two accelerometers in iPhone 7 lineup to further achieve improvements in power management.

Apple’s latest iPhone 7 and the larger iPhone 7 Plus are considered the most energy-efficient iPhones the company has ever released. According to the company, with iPhone 7, the user can get an additional two hours of battery time as compared to the previous-generation iPhone models.

The latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices file as the most energy-efficient iPhones Apple’s ever made: according to the company itself, iPhone 7 owners may get about two additional hours of run time versus the previous-generation iPhones.
