Apple has unveiled its and greatest iPhone ever, the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, during a media event. Unlike any previous number jump in iPhone naming scheme, the iPhone ‘7’ is more like an ‘S’ upgrade. As expected, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus looks almost identical to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, except for the cleaner layout of antenna lines on the back of the device. The antenna bands have been moved towards the top and bottom of on the back of iPhone 7, which not only give the rear shell a cleaner look but also helps in improved modem’s performance due to less interference.
Since the iPhone 7 looks almost identical to its predecessor, in an effort to make up for that, Apple has introduced it in two new color options: Black and Jet Black. The design is splash and water resistant and comes with a new home button.
Another visible change seen on the iPhone 7 is the removal of 3.5mm audio jack from the bottom of the device which has been replaced with a secondary stereo speaker grille. While both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus comes with stereo speakers,the second speaker is located at the top of the phone. The overall performance and quality of speakers are better than the iPhone 6s in every way. Apple claims iPhone 7’s speakers to be 2x louder than the iPhone 6s.
Both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus features larger camera hole at their rear. There is 12MP camera sensor on the back of both models. The larger sibling features a dual 12MP sensor with additional imaging capabilities. Both iPhones have a quad LED true tone flash. On the front side, there is a 7MP FaceTime camera.
Both the iPhone 7 and the Plus have a wide-angle 12MP camera sensor while the larger sibling has an additional 12MP telephoto camera sensor that helps in high-quality zoom, an all-new depth-of-field effect (coming soon), and portrait shots will look better than ever with DSLR-like Bokeh effect. The cameras on the rear come with a f/1.8 aperture 6-element and OIS.
Chipset and RAM
Apple has introduced iPhone 7 and the Plus with an all-new A10 Fusion chipset. The chipset comprises of 4 cores, two of which are high-performance cores while the other two cores and efficiency-cores.the high-performance cores are up to 40% faster than the A9 chip while the efficiency cores can run at one-fifth the performance of high-performing cores providing longer battery time when the phone is not in use. The GPU inside the chipset is almost 50% faster than the A9 chip and up to 3X faster than the A8 chip.
While the smaller iPhone 7 continues to feature a 2GB RAM module,Apple has bumped up the RAM inside the iPhone 7 Plus to 3GB module. This additional RAM will surely help the larger iPhone 7 in quickly processing the photos taken with its dual-camera system.
New Retina HD Display
Just like their predecessors, both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus feature a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch display respectively with 3D Touch functionality. Even the resolution on both models is the same as their predecessors. However, the display on the newer iPhone models is 25% brighter and features wider color gamut. Now you can tweak the colors of the display as per you liking.
Capacitive Home Button
The home button on the iPhone 7 and the Plus comes with a new generation Taptic Engine that provides feedback depending the task you are performing and how much pressure you have applied on the button.
Lightning EarPods and AirPods
Since Apple has removed the 3.5mm audio jack from the bottom of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple is now bundling lightning EarPods with the new iPhone models.
The company has also launched its all-new wireless AirPods. These AirPods features Apple’custom-madede W1 chip. The Airpods can last upto 5 hours on a single charge. A built-in IR blaster automatically stops the music playback when the AirPods are not being used.
Apple is goubling the storage across the board with the launch of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The base model now have 32GB of storage, while the 64GB and 128GB storage options have been replaced with 12GB and 256GB respectively.
Improved Battery Life
The new Apple A10 Fusion chipset allows iPhone 7 to last 2 hours longer than the iPhone 6s. While the larger iPhone7 Plus can survive one hour longer than the iPhone 6s Plus on a single change.
Both the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 will be available for pre-orders from September 9 in the United States, UK, Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, and a few other countries. The smartphones will finally be hitting shelves on September 16th.
