After months of reports and rumors, it seems highly likely that Apple will indeed be ditching the 3.5mm audio jack for Lightning headphones. These Lightning headphone will be using the Lightning port for connectivity. Apple is also expected to launch a new kind of wireless Earpods along with the iPhone 7 and the Plus.
After so many reports and rumors, the photos of alleged Lightning Earpods meant for the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus have been leaked on Weibo. The Earpods shown in the leaked photos have a Lightning connector as claimed by numerous reports and rumors. Apart from the connector, the Earpods looks almost identical to the existing Earpods that Apple bundles with current iPhones.
The alleged EarPods can be seen encased in a sturdy plastic shell that will make it more reliable that the current Lightning cable as shown in the photo. It is worth mentioning that the current Lightning cables are prone to fray. Apple has faced criticism for the poor quality of its Lightning cable. The fruit company is also expected to add additional circuitry like a DAC to achieve better audio quality.
It remains unclear how Apple would allow its iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus users to charge their devices while the Lightning EarPods are plugged in. It is fairly common among masses to do so during traveling and daily life.
