iPhone 7 to look identical to iPhone 6/6s, iPhone 8 to see major redesign [WSJ]

There is no end to the reports and rumors about what Apple is going to do with its upcoming iPhone and probably the iPhone after that. Today, it’s The Wall Street Journal reporting about the overall design and look of the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting what we have already heard through numerous reports that this year’s iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus won’t offer any radical design changes over the current latest iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus.

Citing its sources familiar with the matter, the WSJ says that, breaking its pattern of overhauling iPhone design every two years, Apple will launch the upcoming iPhone 7 lineup with look and feel of last year’s iPhone flagship models, with a few key changes: removal of 3.5mm headphone jack.

Apple Inc. plans to break with its recent pattern of overhauling the design of its flagship iPhone every two years, and make only subtle changes in the models it will release this fall, according to people familiar with the matter.

Among other things, those people said, Apple’s newest phones will maintain the current 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays. Those are the sizes of the larger-display models Apple introduced in 2014, and refreshed with newer models last fall.

However, Apple has planned major changes for the 2017 models of the iPhone lineup, the report added. The Journal’s report is indeed in line with numerous previous reports suggesting Apple will switch to OLED display for 2017 iPhone models and will reduce the bezel size as well:

For years, Apple Chief Design Officer Jony Ive has expressed a desire for the iPhone to appear like a single sheet of glass, according to people familiar with the matter. The current design ideas for the 2017 iPhones are expected to push the handsets in that direction by eliminating much of the bezel around the display, with the OLED screen.

There is nothing new in this report other than the idea that Apple is indeed seems to be going against its two-year major hardware and exterior change cycle, instead, the company is reportedly going to wait another year to introduce a brand new iPhone design

If all the rumors and reports turn out to be true and given the fact that Apple will be celebrating iPhone’s 10-year anniversary next year , it would make perfect sense for the company to launch radical new design and add more features in next year’s model.

Based on the reports and rumors, Apple is expected to introduce iPhone 7/Plus with 256GB of storage option, a dual lens camera system embedded on the back of the device, an all new deep blue color option as replacement of the space grey. While the upcoming iPhone 7 lineup is widely reported to come in a design similar to the iPhone 6s, the upcoming devices are said to feature relocated antenna bands and a recent leak hints at a touch-sensitive home button for the iPhone 7.
