As promised alongside the release of iOS 9.1 jailbreak, the team Pangu has finally released jailbreak for Apple TV 4. Pangu jailbreak for Apple TV 4 works only on the set top boxes running tvOS 9.0 – tvOS 9.0.1.
Please note that Pangu jailbreak is not compatible with Apple TV 4 boxes running tvOS 9.1 and tvOS 9.2, which was pushed to general public a couple of days ago.
While the Apple TV 4 jailbreak is available now, it only provides root access without any GUI-based features, which makes it suitable for jailbreak developers and security researchers. With that said, an Apple TV 4 jailbreak is still a good news as it opens the door to the modifications and improvements to the Apple TV. For example, apart from providing new features, jailbreak developers may come up with a new interface or themes for the Apple TV.
The Pangu jailbreak for Apple TV 4 running tvOS 9.0 – tvOS 9.0.1 is currently available for Mac only. We have not tested the jailbreak tool on Apple TV 4 so we cannot verify of it really works. A few days ago, the team Pangu had released a new jailbreak for iOS 9.1, which is not the current latest version of iOS available for iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, Which is why we could not see much excitement in the jailbreak community when the jailbreak was released. It remains to be seen if the team releases an iOS 9.3 jailbreak, which is currently the latest version available for iOS devices.
