How to check apps infected with ‘XcodeGhost’ malware on your iOS device

Recently, the app store was hit with a biggest malware attack in its history. A malware called ‘XcodeGhost’ infected hundreds of iOS apps used by over 500 million users around the globe. We posted a list of apps infected with XcodeGhost malware, but that does not list all the affected apps. To find out if any of your installed apps is affected by the malware, the team Pangu, who are known for some of the latest jailbreak tools, has released a new tool to do exactly that.

Here we will show you how to use Pangu’s XcodeGhost to detect any app infected with XcodeGhost malware on your device.

  1. Go to Pangu’s XcodeGhost tool page using the Safari or Google Chrome browser on your iOS device that you want to get scanned.
  2. Tap on the button that reads 1
  3. Tap on Install.
  4. You’ll have to allow trusted access to Paangu’s tool by going into Settings > General > Profiles. From there, select “Shenzhen Avaintel Technology and finally tap “Trust.”
  5. Now go to Home screen, open Pangu’s app, and tap the blue button that reads 2
  6. After a quick test, a large green check mark should appear of the screen of your iOS device if all of your apps installed on the device are free of XcodeGhost malware. If the tool finds any infected app, it’ll point out the affected application that you can then delete until the developer fixes the issue.

Let us know if your device had an app affected by XcodeGhost malware and share the name in the comments section below.
