How to setup iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus
Follow these simple instructions to setup your shiny new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus:
Turn your iPhone ON by pressing the Power/Sleep button found at the top-right side of the device. You’ll be greeted by a white screen saying “Hello” in multiple languages. Swipe your finger from left-to-right on the screen to begin the iPhone setup process.
You’ll be prompted to insert a valid SIM card if you’ve not already.
Select your desired language from the list provided.
Choose your country or region from the list.
Choose a Wi-Fi Network: You’ll then be prompted to choose a WiFi network. Select your WiFi network and enter the password if it’s secured with one, and then tap join to process. Connecting to WiFi will make setup process quicker.
If there’s no WiFi network in range, you can choose to Use Cellular network instead.
Location Services: You’ll be asked to choose if you want to enable location services or not. Read the description carefully before declining to enable location services. Keep in mind that some apps such as Maps, and Find my iPhone (which is highly recommended) requires location services to be enabled.
Set Up iPhone: This screen will offer you three ways to setup your iPhone: Set Up as New iPhone, restore from iCloud Backup or from iTunes Backup. In this guide we’re going to Set Up as New iPhone.
Apple ID: You can Sign in using your existing Apple ID if you have one. If you’re a new iPhone user, you’ll want to create a new Apple ID.
You can skip this step and go back to create an ID or sign in from Settings app. If you already have an Apple ID, Sign in using that ID.
Terms and Conditions: On logging in to your Apple ID, you’ll have to agree to the Terms & Conditions presented on the screen by tapping on “Agree” at bottom right side of the screen.
A popup will appear asking reconfirming that you agree to the Terms & Condition. Tap on Agree button to proceed. It may take some time to setup your Apple ID.
iCloud: It’s optional to use iCloud. It is Apple’s in-house cloud service that allows you to sync music, photos, contacts, calendar, and more across iOS devices. It can also save a backup of your data and settings. Find My iPhone feature also depends on iCloud feature enabled.
Find My iPhone: It’s a free service from Apple allowing you to locate, lock, and erase your iPhone in case it’s lost. It also includes the Activation Lock feature, which asks for your Apple ID credentials to erase or restore your iPhone.
If you choose to use iCloud service on last screen, next screen will describe Find My iPhone feature and will activate it by default. Now simply tap on Next.
iMessage and FaceTime: The next screen will ask you for email addresses and numbers that you want to link to iMessage and FaceTime services. You may deselect a service that you do not want to enable.
Touch ID: One of the major new feature in new iPhones is the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which allows you to unlock your iPhone using your fingerprint without entering a passcode.
This screen will allow you to setup Touch ID sensor on your iPhone 6, or the Plus. Touch ID setup process may take a few minutes, depending on how many fingers you want to setup. You may also skip Touch ID setup and access it later from the Settings app.
iCloud Keychain: This screen will prompt your to setup iCloud Keychain if you had choose to use iCloud service in previous steps. iCloud Keychain can keep credit card info, passwords, etc. in sync across your various Apple devices.
Siri: Here you can enable or disable Siri – Apple’s own virtual voice assistant.
Diagnostics: When enabled, it anonymously sends almost everything you do on your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus to Apple in an effort to improve user experience. It’s suggested to choose Don’t Send option.
Display Zoom: This screen will allow you to set the view on your iPhone 6 or the 6 Plus. Standard View is what’s standard on iOS, while Zoomed option shows larger text and controls. Make your choice.
