SanDisk, an American Flash memory storage maker, has launched a new USB flash drive dubbed as iXpand that connects with the iPhone and iPad devices through Apple’s proprietary Lightening port. iXpand is a lightening connector enabled USB flash drive made specially for the iPhone and iPad.
SanDisk iXpand flash drive accompanies an iOS app that makes with very convenient to transfer media files, videos, photos and documents between other iOS devices, PCs and Macs without requiring any internet connectivity.
The companion app launches after the iXapnd drive is connected through the lightening connected, and allows you to configure your media content to automatically sync to the USB drive. The app also supports playback for formats such as .WMV, .AVI, .MKV, .MP4, .MOV, some of which are not native to iOS. You can password protect or decrypt your iXpand USB through PC or Mac. When a password protected iXpand USB is connected to iPhone or iPad, the companion app will ask for the password to sync the content.
iXpand Flash Drive is available in 16GB, 64GB storage options, for $59, and $119 respectively and can be bought through SanDisk’s online webstore. A 32GB storage variant will exclusively be available through Best Buy at $79.99.
The lightening enabled flash drive is compatible with all the lightening enabled iPhone and iPad devices such as: iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2 and iPad mini and requires iOS 7 or later. It also carries a ‘Made for iPhone’ label. SanDisk iXpand is said to has a read speed up to 13MB/sec and up to 14MB/sec write speed.
