Alongside the iPhone 6, Apple has also unveiled 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus during the media event today at Flint Center, California. Rumors has been right on spot about this another bigger size phablet from Apple. With the announcement of 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus and 4.7-inch iPhone 6, Apple now has a more diverse iPhone lineup.
The larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 plus support full HD display with 1920×1080 pixels resolution with 185% more pixels than its predecessor. Apple is calling its new generation iPhone displays, the Retina HD displays which are covered with “Ion strengthened” glass. These larger screen iPhone 6 also have broader viewing angles.
The larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 plus offers iPad like interface by making good use of its larger real-estate. Below you can see a side-by-side comparison of messages app on the large screen iPhone and the smaller one. Faces next to the messages can be seen on the larger one.
iPhone 6 Plus thickness measures at 7.1mm compared to the 7.6mm thick iPhone 5s. A larger smartphone is usually tough to use in one hand, but Apple has introduced a feature dubbed as “Reachability mode”, enabling user to comfortably use larger iPhones in one hand. The feature can be activated by double tapping the home button and it slides down the entire screen making buttons at the top easily accessible.
Just as the rumors had predicted, iPhone 6 Plus has a relocated power button on the side of the body making it easier to be reached. Hardware wise, it comes with 64-bit A8 processor with 20nm architecture. Apple claims the CPU to be 25% faster and 50% faster GPU over its predecessor. A built-in A8 coprocessor can tells you if you’re cycling, running and can also calculate elevation.
iPhone 6 Plus packs a new iSight camera with 8MP sensor. Although it’s same as the last generation, but it has new sensors that can do faster autofocus, and face detection. It also has optical image stabilizer allowing you to capture better pictures and videos even when your hands are shaky. You will be able to shoot sl-mo videos at 240 fps. Burst selfies option is also there for you.
An on contract iPhone 6 Plus will bear a price tag of $299, $399 and $499 for the 16GB, 64GB and 128GB models respectively. Pre-orders of iPhone 6 Plus starts this Friday, September 12 and the device will be shipped on September 17th.
