Soon after i0nic tweeted a photo as proof that he has successfully jailbroken iPhone 5c running iOS 7.1.1, Winocm has posted a video of her own as well, showing an untethered jailbroken iPhone 4 on iOS 7.1.1.
While the proof presented by winocm is not as impressive as i0n1c’s proof, she claims that her jailbreak can work on newer devices if someone was willing to “put in the effort.”
Here’s the video description:
This is the culmination of boredom, 3 hours of work and lots of masochism.
@winocm
Oh yeah, this is iOS 7.1.1 untethered if you didn’t notice earlier. (iPhone 4 GSM though, don’t want to mess with any other devices that I have. Would work elsewhere… if you put in the effort. ?)
With all the latest devices such as iPhone 5s, 5c, iPad Air, iPad mini 2 waiting to get an iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak treatment, a jailbreak running on a device which most probably is not going to get the iOS 8 support, is not much exciting. But still, it’s a very encouraging news for the jailbreak community that hackers are working on an untethered jailbreak for the latest iOS versions.
It seems highly unlikely that there would be a public release for iOS 7.1 jailbreak since we are very close to the unveiling of Apple’s next major mobile firmware update i.e. iOS 8 at WWDC 2014. Hopefully, the currently working exploits will provide the basis for a bigger jailbreak release in near future that would benefit all iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users regardless of the model.
It’s not clear if winocm was using the exploits i0nic used to tease his iPhone 5c jailbreak. It’s worth noting that winocm along with ih8sn0w developed p0sixspwn jailbreak for iOS 6.1.6 devices shortly after release of evasi0n7 – the iOS 7 jailbreak. Winocm has also accepted a position at Apple starting this summer.
