Update iPhone to iOS 7 Beta without Registering UDID

Yesterday, Apple unveiled iOS 7 with a all new design and user interface. Apple also seeded iOS 7 beta 1 to developers so they may get their apps ready for the prime time. By Apple’s rules, iOS 7 beta 1 can only be installed on an iPhone with a registered UDID. However, things seems different with iOS 7 beta 1…

Users seems to be able to update iPhone to iOS 7 beta without having their iPhone’s UDID registered in a developers account. Reddit user 000MIX explains the procedure how he managed to update iPhone 5 to iOS 7 without registering UDID:

  1. Download the correct .ipsw file for your device (you can find iOS 7 beta .IPSW file via Google)
  2. Connect your iPhone to iTunes, hold down (Alt/Option for mac, or Shift for Windows) and click on the Update button instead the restore button. Browse and select the downloaded IPSW and proceed with installation.

So, the trick in this method is to click on Update button instead of Restore. Many users have confirmed this method as working with their iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5.

Important

Avoid updating to iOS 7 beta if:

  • You want to retain your jailbreak.
  • you need hacktivation, because you won’t be able to hacktivate.

If you’re adventurous enough to test iOS 7 beta, please bear in mind that its first beta release and thing might be buggy at the moment and you may also face crashed and poor battery performance.

Yikes, this happens every year and the Apple sends out a behind the scenes updates that bricks anyone who hasn’t registered their UDID with them. I don’t know if I would trust this. I’m an app developer and still have a few slots available if you guys want to hit me up with a donation, I’ll register you as a legit beta device and you won’t have to get bricked. Shoot me an email at [email protected] if you want more details. Good luck, amigos.

I was able to download iOS 7 Beta from a torrent site and was able to update my iPhone 5 without any glitches. It took hardly 15 minutes to upgrade. May be you need to reboot the phone once it is upgraded so that time zone and other properties are refreshed.
