Thieves in Japan Steal iPhone 5 Stock Before its Launch

A group of thieves in Japan was the first one to get iPhone 5 before anyone else in the globe. Last night, a group of burglars in Japan stole the iPhone 5 stock from three different locations that was meant for the launch day.

According to a report from WSJ, at around 3:00AM, a time when thousands of eager Apple fans were already lined up outside outlets around the world, police found that 33 iPhone 5s were missing from a KDDI au-brand shop in Ibaraki city. Two hours later a Softbank store in Osaka city was wiped clean of its entire 116 unit stock and then a nearby au store also had 42 iPhone 5s taken which was nearly its entire stock.

At a time when thousands of eager Apple fans were already lined up outside outlets around the world, Osaka police said 191 of Apple’s latest must-have smartphone were stolen in the wee hours leading up to the official launch. As of Friday at noon, three stores were hit across Japan’s western metropolis in an unusual string of robberies targeting the hottest tech toy this fall.

iPhone 5 pre-orders on the first day topped 2 million units. Since then, Apple has said pre-order customers would have to wait up to one month for a new iPhone to ship.
