iOS 6 Adds All New Maps with Turn-by-turn Navigation, 3D Flyovers, More

Good Bye Google Maps on iOS. Apple has announced all new Apple Maps for iOS 6 devices during the Keynote at WWDC 2012. The homefrown Maps solution brings turn-by-turn Navigation, 3D Flyovers, Siri integration, Traffic Layers to iOS 6 Maps app.

Hit the jump to learn more about the Apple’s Maps…

The new Maps app in iOS 6 has 100 million business listings fortified with Yelp integration, traffic reports collected using anonymous real-time crowd sourced data from phones, and turn-by-turn navigation that can work directly from the phone’s lock screen. Siri integration lets you ask questions like “are we there yet” and get an answer with the estimated arrival time. Maps also includes the rumored 3D mode, called “Flyover,” which has 3D models of cities around the world.

With Traffic reports, coupled with turn-by-turn navigation, you can now be informed if a faster route is available due to traffic conditions.

Beautifully designed from the ground up (and the sky down), Maps will change the way you see the world.1 Map elements are vector based, so graphics and text are incredibly detailed — even when you zoom all the way in — and panning is smooth. Tilt and rotate to view an area, and Maps keeps the names of streets and places where they belong. Get visual and spoken turn-by-turn navigation and real-time traffic updates. Even soar over cityscapes to see the sights from the air in amazing, high-resolution quality.

Turn-by-Turn Navigation
Find your way to your destination using turn-by-turn spoken directions, a 3D view, and real-time traffic information. As you approach a turn, Maps speaks directions, so you can keep your eyes on the road. In addition, the screen turns into a 3D perspective view of the road ahead. Large signs and arrows superimposed over the image show you which way to go and how long it’s going to take to get there — even if your screen is locked. As you approach a turn, the camera angle changes dynamically to show you where to go. If you miss a turn, don’t worry. Maps automatically reroutes you and updates your ETA.

Traffic
With Maps, you get real-time traffic information to calculate your ETA. Maps gives you details on what’s causing a backup, so you can tell if there’s a major incident or just a temporary slowdown. And if traffic’s a mess, Maps offers alternative routes to save you time.

Flyover
See major metro areas from the air with photo-realistic, interactive 3D views. Explore cities in high resolution as you zoom, pan, tilt, and rotate around the city and its landmarks.

Siri
No matter where you roam, Siri can help you find your way. To get to your destination, ask Siri to take you there and Maps immediately guides you along the fastest route. And if you feel peckish on the way, ask Siri to look for the closest hamburger joint or diner.

Local Search
Tap a pin you’ve placed on the map or a search result to see a card full of useful information about that location. View photos, tap to dial phone numbers, get an address, find websites, peruse Yelp ratings and reviews — even find deals to save you money. Tap the Quick Route button and Maps instantly gives you turn-by-turn directions to any search result.
