How to Downgrade iPhone 3GS / 3G 06.15.00 Baseband To 05.13.04 Baseband to Unlock and Fix GPS

MuscleNerd has finally released RedSn0w 0.9.14b1 to downgrade iPhone 3GS / 3G 06.15.00 baseband to 05.13.04 baseband which can be unlocked with UltraSn0w and also fixes the GPS, stock firmware issues incurred on iPhone 3GS/3G due to iPad baseband 06.15.00.

In this guide you’ll learn how to downgrade iPhone 3GS / 3G 06.15.00 to 05.13.04 baseband using RedSn0w 0.9.14b1.

IMPORTANT

  • This downgrade method applied to iDevices compatible with iPad baseband 06.15.00 i.e.: iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G only.
  • This baseband downgrade method does not apply to iPhone 4, iPhone 4S.
  • For those who are wondering if you can update your 3G or 3GS to 06.15 solely for the purposes of downgrading to 05.13.04 and then unlock with UltraSn0w, the answer is “yes” for 3G owners, and “maybe” for 3GS owners.
  • you can now downgrade specifically from 06.15 to 05.13.04 (even if you never had 05.13.04 on that device before).
  • If you have an iPhone3GS and if digits 3-5 of its Serial Number are 134 or later (xx134…), means you’ve an iPhone 3GS New Bootrom then you should NOT try to install the 06.15 baseband on your 3GS! It will brick your radio, preventing both the downgrade from working and normal iPhone software from using it as a phone! Be warned!

Let’s downgrade iPhone 3GS / 3G baseband 06.15.00 to baseband 05.13.04 to fix GPS and unlock with UltraSn0w…

How to Downgrade iPhone 3GS / 3G 06.15.00 To 05.13.04 Baseband

We assume that you’ve read the important part above and have backed up your personal data using iTunes.

Step 1

Download RedSn0w and the firmware that your iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G is currently running:

Step 2

Extract the RedSn0w zip file or mount the image if you’re in Mac OS;
Now launch the RedSn0w (Windows 7/Vista users: right-click on RedSn0w > Run as Administrator);

Click Jailbreak button. RedSn0w will now prepare the jailbreak data;
Now check mark the Downgrade from iPad baseband checkbox, RedSn0w will present you with a warning read it carefully and click Yes. Disable Cydia (if you already have it installed), and click Next;

Plug your iPhone 3GS or 3G to your computer and make sure it’s OFF. Do a controlled shutdown of your iPhone (“slide to power off”).  This step is very important to avoid mount problems when the ramdisk is running! Now click Next.

Now RedSn0w will guide you through the steps to put your iPhone into DFU mode. Follow the on-screen instruction to put your iPhone into DFU mode.

  • Release the Power (corner) button for 3 seconds
  • Without releasing the Power button, also hold down the Home button for 10 seconds
  • Without releasing the Hom button, release the Power button BUT keep holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.

As soon as your iPhone enters DFU mode, RedSn0w will begin jailbreaking your device. Once the jailbreak process is completed, RedSn0w will tell you that rest of the process will be performed on the device.

You see the Pwnapple running on your iPhone, you’ll eventually get to the “Flashing Baseband” step.  THIS STEP TAKES A VERY LONG TIME to complete and there won’t be any feedback while its running.  Please just let it be for the next 3-8 minutes!  When the ramdisk has done its job it will reboot the phone on its own.

After the reboot, your iPhone 3GS will be running 05.13.04 baseband. You can unlock your iPhone 3GS/3G, Open Cydia, let it update, search for UltraSn0w and intsall it.

That’s it! don’t forget to share your experience in the comments section below…

    Hello,

I was having “No Service/Searching…” on my IPhone 3GS using baseband 6.15.00. Network service was erratic and always going off intermittently.
I discovered that I was to downgrade the baseband to 5.13.04 as the original one had GPS, etc issues.
After downgrading, the network issue persisted, so I found that I had to uninstall and re-install Mobile substrate and Ultrasn0w for the network service to be restored.
I was able to uninstall but could not re-install as the service totally went off and I have no Wi-fi to use as an alternative.
I need to re-install the Mobile substrate but could not so I uninstalled Cydia Installer as well thinking I could get it back by re-jailbreaking.
    This is however not working.
Kindly lease help me out pleaaaase?
    Thanks.

Just try to make the baseband again 6.15.00 than try the downgarde. Idk why i had some issues too. First downgrade was a total fail ( no wi-fi, no gps, no sim, no baseband showing) . After that happened, i just reupgrade the baseband than again downgrade. idk why the second time it worked clean and smooth. maybe there are some small bugs.

Thank you for your response, Dragos.
I tried restoring it with itunes but it got stuck in recovery mode with error 1015.
How do I get it out of recovery mode and ensure a permanent fix?
        Thanks

Hi, After downgrade my 3g 4.1 to 5.13.04 from 6.15 still no service. I followed your remove/install/reboot ultrasn0w and Mobile Substrate instructions. After that it doesn’t recognize my phone number, no carrier in settings and keep checking for Internet Tethering in network.
This phone was working fine for about one year at 4.2.1 – 6.15 BB when suddenly started dropping calls or showing just one bar, I did almost every suggestion under the sky to fix it, even put new sim card (verified with other cellular) and welded bypass wire on the back of circuit board.
    More ideas please!

    • Dragos 6 November 2012 at 8:00 pm #

You should upgrade your ios to 4.2.1 again than just upgrade your baseband to 6.15 and downgrade it to 5.13. Maybe there are some ios issues. Anyways if this works you can downgrade your ios to 4.1. if not than it might be a hardware problem.

      • Fredo 9 November 2012 at 2:49 am #

Thanks Dragos,I’ve upgraded to 4.2.1, BB 6.15, unlocked with ultrasn0w, it recognizes my carrier but intermittently, sometimes gives No Service. When at 4 bars never can place calls, always Failed call.
As you suggested it might be a hardware problem. Any ideas where to start locking?

        • Dragos 9 November 2012 at 8:42 pm #

          Hmm…
Uninstall than reinstall ultrasn0w and mobile substrate. If nothing changes than read bellow.

First of all try to shake your iphone and check if you still have signal. If you get the “no service” message when you shake the iphone , it might be from the antena. Also try to move a bit the SIM card slot (only if you can , don’t try to force it). I’m not that good at hardware problems but these can be the main reason why you get the “No Service” message.

I had 3Gs jailbroken with iOS 4.1, which was working fine. Tried upgrade to iOS 6.0.1 by:

    1. Restore to ‘iPhone2,1_6.0.1_10A523_Restore’ using iTune 10.7
    2. Choosing the ‘iPhone2,1_6.0_10A403_Restore’ IPSW, jailbreak using ‘redsn0w_win_0.9.15b3′.
    3. Again using ‘iPhone2,1_6.0_10A403_Restore’ did just boot tethered.
    4. Cydia shows 6.0.1

No error with above steps, but didn’t get service.

Then based on the suggestion, I tired:

    5. Installed Ultrasn0w Fixer.

    Still no luck, then tried:

    6. Jailbreak again to Downgrade to iPad Baseband.
    7. Using ‘iPhone2,1_6.0_10A403_Restore’ did just boot tethered.
    8. Re-install Ultrasn0w Fixer.

    Same.. No service still..

    Please help

    Hi,

My 3GS Serial number is xx95031xxxx. (i.e. greater than 134).
    And baseband is 06.15.00.

My GPS is working. Should I still downgrade to 5.13.04 ?

    • Anon 12 February 2013 at 3:00 pm #

And I am on iOS 6.1. What is the benefit to move to BB 5.13.04 ?

      • Dragos 13 February 2013 at 1:31 am #

You said your GPS is working, Have you tried it without an internet connection? to see if it really works in a new location? other benefits idk, maybe the chance to use your iphone as a cellphone.

        • Anon 13 February 2013 at 5:04 am #

Yes, I am using the phone as my cellphone. ( I do see intermittent cellular connection loss, that used to happen before also). And without wifi maps wont load, but yes, a new location is displayed.

You say “disable Cydia if you already have in installed”…
    How?
Like, un-jailbreak? or turn off all the features? or what…
    Thanks for your help,
