These are the step-by-step instructions to jailbreak iPhone 4S iOS 5.0.1 untethered with Absinthe.
For iPad 2 Users: Jailbreak iPad 2 with Absinthe
How to Jailbreak the iPhone 4S 5.0.1 with Absinthe
Step 1
Connect your iPhone 4S to your computer and back with iTunes and update it to iOS 5.0.1 (Not recommended for those waiting for an unlock. you can jailbreak while staying on 5.0 as well)
Step 2
Download Absinthe and extract it;
Step 3
Now run Absinthe, make sure your iPhone 4S is connected to your computer;
Hit the Jailbreak button on Absinthe screen;
The application will take you through several steps of the jailbreak:
It will take a while on the starting portion;
Then your iPhone 4S will show restoring a backup saying “Restoring in Progress”;
Your iPhone 4S will reboot. DO NOT UNPLUG IT YET! when it’s turned on, unlock your iPhone if necessary, waiting for device to finish booting;
Preparing jailbreak data, and Sending payload data.
It will take time, don’t worry.
Step 4
There will be an Absinthe icon on your iPhone 4S screen after reboot. Locate it and Tap on the Absinthe icon and it will load GreenPois0n site, and then after a minute it will reboot your iPhone 4S automatically. Once your iPhone 4S is back ON, the Cydia icon will be there on your screen.
That’s it! have fun with your jailbroken iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1 or 5.0 firmware with Absinthe.

Troubleshooting
- Camera roll will be empty if the jailbreak is incomplete. Rerun the app once to fix, and then another time to complete jb.
- If the Absinthe webclip shows “Error establishing a database connection”, please go to Settings, turn on VPN and wait instead.
- The VPN connection will give an error. This is normal. A reboot should happen a few moments after the error.
- Just reboot and redo the jailbreak if you have problems.
- When jailbreaking: Do not have a passcode set. Do not have your own VPN setup (Absinthe needs to setup its own).
- If Absinthe crashes, reboot your DEVICE and try again.
- Toggle VPN only AFTER Absinthe says it’s done, or it will not work. VPN SHOULD error and then reboot soon. If it does not, rerun Absinthe!

1 little thing i’ve noticed, it takes longer to find my the provider and it seems that it is dropping it from time-to-time. Just tested it so i’m not sure about it, but it looks like it.

I can’t seem to jb my 4S. The jailbreak button is greyed out and cannot be clicked. I’ve tried restoring, disable password, enable vpn. Nothing seems to work. Anyone have a solution for this?

I thing that I have found the answer for you! Just create another user account on your mac and do the jailbreak from there. I also have that terrible problem…

My iPad 2 3G has white screen on after tapping the icon. I think it’s due to overload of greenp0ison website. As you can see from the tutorial above, it shows that tapping the icon will make an attempt to connect to greep0ison website…and since it’s not loading TADA! we are all stuck in the middle of the jailbreak. FML

Ok found the solution for no detect iphone…
let your iphone 4s plugin into the mac
restart your mac the normal way” apple icon restart”
when you hear the sound press the shift key on your keyboard.. when the grey apple logo appear release the shift after 2 sec… your mac boots in safe mode… after the boot, start absinthe.app and the jailbreak button will be available… no more grey..

I jailbroke my phone without issues yesterday, until this morning when I shut it off, and tried to reboot it. Now it stays at the Apple boot screen. Anyone run into this issue? I didn’t tether jailbreak prior to running absinthe, it was a factory phone.

I JB my Ipad 2 on the windows Absinthe with no issues. But when I try to JB my iPhone 4S, the absinthe keeps crashing. I have tried rebooting the device and the computer. I tried changing computers and cables, all the same results. Ensured VPN was off, tried to turn on, but it wanted me to setup, and didn’t know what to put in the fields, so it defaulted to turning VPN off. The pass code is OFF.
It never says the “RESTORE IN PROGRESS” message, but the spinning arrows on top are moving as if it was syncing.
Any help would be appreciated.

i have a sprint phone and trying to use it on another service. i started with restoring from apple download and the use absinthe. i am struck at may be 10% of the progress for the last hour. Any help?
I completely restored my iPhone 4S, then applied Absinthe. The process was completed and Cydia was installed. However, when I attempt to install a crack app, the phone says that it cannot be installed.
So, I once again completely restored the phone and went through the Absinthe process. But, with the same result.
What went wrong with the Absinthe process that, after the jailbreak, prevents installation of cracked apps?
My 3G signal seems to keep dropping out where it was fine before. If I go to airplane mode and back, the signal goes to full 3G again. Anyone else seen this?
