Apple has just released the iOS 5 Beta 5 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad and iPod Touch 4G, 3G to registered iOS developers. If you’re a registered iOS developer you can download iOS 5 beta 5 from the iOS Dev Center. The update is also available over the air on iOS devices.
iOS 5 beta 5 has a build number 9A5288d. Beta 5 update is also available Over-the-Air, a feature that went live with iOS 5 beta 4 released on July 22. Regular iOS 5 beta 4 download for a iPhone 4 GSM is 787MB, while the OTA update is just 128MB. To install iOS 5 beta 5 update over-the-air however, you’ll need to Erase all contents and Settings first.
To install iOS 5 beta 5 using over the air software update, you must first erase all content and settings on your device by choosing Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Over the air software update can be initiated on devices running iOS 5 beta 3 and later by choosing Settings > General > Software Update.
Note: OTA updates do not work on Jailbroken iOS devices. This version of iOS is intended only for installation on development devices registered with Apple’s Developer Program. Attempting to install this version of iOS in an unauthorized manner could put your device in an unusable state, which could necessitate an out of warranty repair.
