Official Facebook app for iPad Coming Soon to The App Store?

Facebook is finally about to launch to an official Facebook app for iPad, according to the New York Times. Facebook has been working on an iPad application for approximately the past year and its launch is expected in the coming weeks, New York Times reports.

People briefed on Facebook’s plans say that in coming weeks the company plans to introduce a free iPad application that has been carefully designed and optimized for the tablet. The app has been in production at Facebook for almost a year, going through several design iterations, and is now in the final stages of testing, according to these people, who declined to be named because they were discussing confidential product plans.

Facebook app for iPhone was released in the App Store in 2008, and it’s been more than a year since the iPad released and we still don’t have an official iPad version of the app.

The Facebook app for iPad which is “carefully designed and optimized for the tablet” has been overseen by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Yep, the same person who said Apple iPad is not a mobile device.

People who have seen the application said it has a slick design that has been tailored for the iPad and its touchscreen interface. Facebook developers and designers have also overhauled the Facebook Chat and Facebook Groups features for the application. And the app will go beyond the features available on the Facebook Web site by allowing users to shoot and upload photos and videos directly from the iPad’s built-in cameras.

The report also claims that the Facebook app for iPad will be free and just says “in the coming weeks.” about the release date. Apple reportedly plans to help Facebook promote the app by featuring it prominently in the App Store.

LOL, I thought Zuckerberg said they were NOT going to do an iPad app, because iPads unlike iPods/iPhones are not portable so iPad users would just have to use the regular website. Glad to see he backpedaled on that. It was a foolish stance, I suppose once he saw all those apps for accessing Facebook selling on iPads that people other than Facebook were making money on spurred the change.

I find this to be funny, as well. Mark Z was so adamant about not making an iPad app. Makes you wonder what changed his mind. Either way, I am happy that I will not have to use Friendly anymore. I hate the app. It got so annoying that I downloaded the iPhone Facebook just to bring some sanity to using Facebook on my iPad.
