In 4.3 beta 1, developers of third-party native iOS apps and third-party Web apps can now utilize AirPlay functionality. Before this, only native Apple applications can make use of AirPlay, which allows multimedia content to be streamed wirelessly from iOS devices and Mac computers to compatible hardware.

Awesome, great firmware, thank you apple

s.laramore January 17, 2011, 8:17 am

When are they going to turn the fm on for iPhones?

LOL4iphone January 19, 2011, 8:32 pm

Errrr, never? Putting FM on the iphone would defeat the purpose of the App store music section. If people would like to hear music, they’ll go for the radio and not their apps and pay 99c per song. =]]

-well thats my opinion… soo.. no bashing please. haha

mickbab February 5, 2011, 9:03 am

There is an FM radio in the iPod nano, so I can’t see why they wouldn’t want to put one in the iPhone.

pmalla February 7, 2011, 6:49 pm

thats true, but the iphone device is much more complex than the ipod nano. I too would like to see FM on the iphone, but the delay is most likely with possible interference with GSM antennas, or just not enough room for another antenna ? just my thought on it.

Also for iphones, there are various data plans. The new owners no longer have unlimited data. with this said one of the most popular radio apps in pandora which uses a good amount of data. …people keep streaming music … forget they have a limit … go over …pay more haha

Nokia’s been putting radios in there phones for almost a decade and they don’t relay on the internet. they use the built in radio receiver and headphones as a antennae.

I can understand apple not putting in their own built in 1 though because they’re are already apps like “tunein radio” that have that covered.

Ramji22 March 4, 2011, 4:35 pm

Is any of this gonna go for the iPod touch 2g??

brykk March 6, 2011, 11:09 pm

nope. apple stopped firmware updates for iPhone 3G and iPod 2g

Angela M March 20, 2011, 6:14 am

You can actually download an app that allows you to get all the radio stations in the country. The name is ooTunes

TheExpatriot March 20, 2011, 9:00 pm

I have been using ‘TuneIn Radio’ for a while now. Definitely an app worth the couple of bucks for being able to receive whichever radio station from all over the world.

When is Apple going to fix the horrible battery discharge of 3 to 6 hours when in the sleep mode on an itouch 3rd gen 32 gb that has been updated to ios 4.2.1? The Apple Forum now has over 400,000 views with 1875 posts since July 2010. Apple must do something to fix the quick battery discharge and excessive battery cycling as a result of the quick discharge, especially with the nice profit they are making.

you_mad_bro January 24, 2011, 10:14 pm

the problem does not lie in the software, it is the power source, since this is a past model of the ipod touch, apple will not do much to improve the settings, sorry bro your out of luck.

Mike Perry January 31, 2011, 6:16 am

I share spwhiting’s frustration, but with a 2-gen iPod touch. Before iOS 4, I could leave WiFi on all the time, since WiFi had little-to-no impact on battery life when sleeping. Now I have to remember to turn WiFi off overnight or face a dead battery the next day. Apple has tried to claim that the problem lies with someone else’s routers, but I use an Airport Extreme and my iPhone 3G running iOS 4 doesn’t have the problem. Is suspect the problem lies with one little-line of miswritten code.

I’ve decide to boycott new iDevices from Apple and buy used with care. Yesterday, I picked up a second-hand iPhone 3GS that has more useful features than the latest iPod touch for less money. Even more important, with AT&T leaning on them, a 3GS is likely to be better supported than any discontinued touch. Apple’s often clueless marketing team has written off the touch as purely a gaming machine. That explains the anemic camera, and the poor support for prior models.

Hotdog123 February 19, 2011, 3:39 am

It’s because iOS 4 keeps connected to wi-fi when you lock your device or keeps wi-fi on.

Dizzblizz March 11, 2011, 8:46 am

Do you not own a charger? Put it on the charger at night. I literally use my touch 4G everyday between the camera, games, music, and occasional streaming and web surfing and rarely need to recharge during the day. And I work 12-15 hour days. Don’t let a little mp3 player run your life, geez.

sjbzzz March 20, 2011, 8:51 pm

I agree sir

Inquirer2011 February 1, 2011, 11:15 pm

I thought Apple was going to include the ability to read flash. That will be day iOS turns perfect.

mhtruth February 20, 2011, 2:29 pm

The feature to cut it off is the best working feature of flash…it sucks…and im not just talking battery life. Im glad it not included in Ios, html5 works fine, and has been quickly adopted by most sites.

Toomy February 2, 2011, 9:34 am

Fix the bluetooth with the iphone4, its shit.

mhtruth February 22, 2011, 7:32 am

whats wrong with your bluetooth? im on 4.1 and mine works fine on my iphone 4

digital sushi March 17, 2011, 2:12 am

IT doesn’t work properly with numerous in car audio kits. Pioneer being one of them, the handsfree is fine but the bluetooth audio forget it. unless you want to delete the settings and re pair the devices every time you get in the car.

My 3gs worked perfectly fine until os4 but apparently according to apple it is the pioneer stereo that is the problem! Really apple seems odd when it stopped working immediatly after your rubbish update.

flakefrost February 5, 2011, 8:40 am

i like the new kayboard layout, looks way better

Henry February 7, 2011, 6:14 am

Seriously?!!! That’s it?! I was going to wait for info on the iPad 2 before buying a Motorola Xoom… but if they’re not even making any changes in the fundamental UI design, then why bother?! If this is true, Android just earned one more convert… I wish Apple would do something more like Mac OS optimized for a tablet form factor 🙁

Ozturkinc February 16, 2011, 1:21 pm

Ohhh Henry, please don’t go :p

mhtruth February 20, 2011, 2:32 pm

get a xoom… its gonna need you to mention it to stay relevant… like motorola’s droid phones in the media.

mhtruth February 20, 2011, 2:34 pm

perpage html (in cydia LOL)…make ya own widgets if need be or just get an android.

iBarf February 18, 2011, 9:12 am

I think we need Gosh Darn WIDGETS!!!
When I look at an Android’s screen with all the widgeteria going on and then look back at my iPod Touch.. I cry… ;(

iOS springboard is BORING. Just a lot of app icons stuffed together and that’s it!
And no, don’t tell me about Cydia or Winterboard or else… nothing so far comes close to Android…

mhtruth February 20, 2011, 2:35 pm

perpage html (in cydia LOL)…make ya own widgets if need be or just get an android.

iFlash? February 25, 2011, 10:04 pm

why cant flash be on an iPod/Phone/Pad as an inv app?, cause a lot of sites work with flash and to visit those without flash, they need to make an app….

iPhoneHeat February 26, 2011, 1:17 am

Apple hates Flash (Adobe?)..

aristamaster February 28, 2011, 7:42 pm

I have a 16g 3gs is this iOS a unlocked version and will it fix my currently unlocked phone that the gps signal is non existant on?

mhtruth March 1, 2011, 4:33 am

genoshaft March 9, 2011, 11:41 pm

Is it possible to jailbreak iOS 4.3 to work with iPod Touch 2G?

vodanhz March 10, 2011, 11:27 am

ipt2g & ip3g is not supported in 4.3

pixelriffic March 10, 2011, 4:59 am

Home sharing is a nice touch, and one step closer to what I was really hoping for. I have both a 3GS phone, and an iPad 1. I really wonder why they still don’t offer wifi sync. Zune (yes I am not kidding here) has had this feature for two years now. I’d rather sync that leaving a machine up all the time.

vodanhz March 10, 2011, 11:06 am

anyone experience problem with battery draining like crazy on the 3Gs 4.2.1 iOS ?

spwhiting March 10, 2011, 7:01 pm

Apple’s ipod touch forum has a battery thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2474499&tstart=15&start=1995
with over 2000 replies. Various solutions are offered to fix the quick battery drain caused by ios 4.xx, but none seem to solve the entire problem. Apple’s reluctance to issue a statetement regarding the problem or to publish a fix is reprehensible. Because of their silence/stupidity I have moved my business to another vendor.

jeffs402 March 11, 2011, 7:30 am

Does the new keyboard on iOS4.3 work on the iPhone 3GS?

lambo19 March 23, 2011, 2:51 am

From the looks of my 3GS, after scanning through the settings menus also, I dont think the 3GS supports the see-through keyboard

iMacker March 14, 2011, 4:18 am

too bad these features were available in ios 4.1 when you Jailbreak your phone. I mean Airplay, hotspots, multi touch has all been done through cydia check out these must have cydia apps http://surreystore.com/cms/technology/7-apple/15-must-have-cydia-apps.html

East london March 21, 2011, 6:20 am

Great thanks. But jail break is better. I am sticking on to 4.1 until something big changes.

fahdajmal April 4, 2011, 12:17 pm

I cannot see the following features on my iPad after i upgraded from iOS 4.2.1 to 4.3.1.. any thing i missed out?

1. Local Hotspot
2. Multi Touch Gestures
3. New Message Alert Settings

Ranmat April 10, 2011, 2:31 pm

1.) Local hotspot is only on the iPhone.
2.) Multi touch gestures were in the beta testing version, but they were removed in the actual release. They will probably be in iOS 4.4 or 4.5.
3.) The message alerts is for SMS, which you can only get for a phone.

hhhhh April 25, 2011, 4:38 pm

they should bring it out for ipod touch 2g

ZeeJay December 19, 2012, 9:15 pm

I found ios 4.3 very appealing specially its router function.

?????? March 5, 2013, 8:39 pm
