jailbreak iphone 3g ios 4.0.2 redsn0w

NOTE: JailbreakMe that was released to jailbreak iOS 4.0.1 on iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G and all iPod Touch 3G, 2G, doesn’t work on iOS 4.0.2. However, existing version of RedSn0w jailbreak can still jailbreak iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (non-MC) on iOS 4.0.2 firmware.

  • This guide is for iPhone 3G users only.
  • RedSn0w 0.9.5b5-5 is a jailbreak, NOT an unlock.
  • iOS 4.0.2 does NOT update baseband so you can Unlock iPhone 3G with UltraSn0w after jailbreak.
  • RedSn0w hacktivates iPhone 3G iOS 4.0.2.

Let’s jailbreak iPhone 3G running iOS 4.0.2 firmware with RedSn0w 0.9.5b5-5.

Jailbreak iPhone 3G iOS 4.0.2 with RedSn0w

Step 1

Download the the required stuff linked at the bottom. Download both the firmware 4.0 and 4.0.2.

Step 2

Restore iOS 4.0.2 on your iPhone 3G. you need iTunes 9.2.1 to do that. (Links below)

Step 3

  1. Run the downloaded redsn0w 0.9.5 beta.
  2. Hit the Browser button. Select the iOS 4.0 IPSW file. (Yes iOS 4.0 NOT 4.0.1, that’s the tricky part)
  3. Check mark Cydia and hit next button.
  4. Check mark Enable Multitasking and Wallpaper (uncheck if you don’t want to enable these options because these slow down the iPhone)
  5. You’ll be instructed to put your iPhone into DFU Mode to install jailbreak.
  6. When your iPhone 3G comes back up, you’ll notice Cydia has a blank white icon. Allow Cydia to reorganize, then accept the update it offers. When Cydia restarts, you should see its real logo now.

that’s it. You’ve successfully jailbroken iPhone 3G iOS 4.0.2 firmware with RedSn0w.

In point 2 of Step 3, where it says “Yes iOS 4.0 NOT 4.0.1, that’s the tricky part”… it should be 4.0.2 instead of 4.0.1…

You can save the file as an ispw by changing the .zip to .ispw

I jailbroke my iPad wi-fi with jailbreakme and now my wi-fi signal indicator in the corner is gone but I’m still connected and all the services that gather my location don’t work. Like maps and Twitter can no longer use my location. I’m still glad I did it though. Backgrounding and free apps without having to wait for iOS 4.2 for iPad, more I installed flash on my iPad, I can enjoy movies from Hulu and YouTube freewheelingly, though I got an iPad video Converter from ifunia, that only make sense when I travel and don’t have much data.

I used redsn0w 0.9.5 beta on by iphone 3g os 4.0.1 but it didnt went on very well…

Everything is working with exception of…
1) iPod opens but cannot play songs (Sometime crash)
2) Update for cracked games from installous cannot work… they just crash
3) itunes not working… hard to find app on installous
4) iphone lagging… really very badly

Help >.< Can anyone help me solve this problem.
Thank you so much in advance^^

Hi. I was wondering if it was possible to update and jailbreak an iphone 3g which is on 3.1.3 to a 4.01 without the official update by just using a custom buile firmware using redsnow.

i have an i ophone 3g that was jailbroken and then got updated to ios 4.0.2 i keep reading that all i have to do iis download redsn0w, and ios 4.0, and for some reason ios 4.0.2 after i do, i use redsn0w to browse and they are not there. when i unzip the folders, i keep getting messages about encrypted files. i read to change some ext to ispw from zip, but i am confused. could someone please simplify what i need to do with the downloaded ios 4.0 files (unzip them or whatever) so that redsn0w recognizes them.

thanks
