Nope, the new firmware is for all iphone. According to Jobs, all the iphones display incorrect signal strength. Weather you believe it’s true or not is up to you.

I have this problem too. I have a friend who has a iPhone 3G with 4.1. I’ve tried every thing and can’t even roll back the firmware properly. I know what I’m doing as I’ve JB and rolled back my new iPod Touch 3. Is it even possible to hack this iPhone set up?

I agree, it’s hardware problem and can’t be fixed on iPhone4. Just don’t hold your phone in a normal way or use duct tape like Consumer Reports recommends.

Anyone else experiencing issues with Ios4?
Upgraded my 3GS to 4.0 a few weeks ago and occasionally the phone suddenly restarts and goes to apple logo for a long time, then finally homescreen appears.
Also phone has called people on it’s own. Never had that happen before in the last 4 years owning iPhone.
Wifi icon dosent always show when connected to wifi.
The phone uses much more memory and can be slow at times.
i have 3gs ios4 and ive never had any problems with it since the day it came out and im the wifi all day long !
u should try to restore ur iphone that should do the treat im guessing it did not install completely or correctly on ur iphone !

I downloaded IOS 4.0.1 firmware from this site – how do I use this to upgrade my phone?
My phone is currently running on 3.1.3 with spirit jailbreak.
I saved shsh with Tiny Umbrella – it shows as 4.0.1.shsh – is that correct? I thought it would show as 3.1.3
There is no need to download this firmware. Upgrade to 4.0.1 from iTunes, then use jailbreakme.com or jailbreakme.modmyi.com to jailbreak from your iPhone. Then unlock with ultratrasn0w from cydia. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply Smitty. I already downloaded the ios 4. Do I have to download it through iTunes again or is there another way to install the already downloaded ios. I’m a little short on bandwidth and would prefer not downloading it again if at all possible.
I had some major issues with the iOS4 downloaded from above so can’t recommend using it. It’s always best to use the latest firmware, there are some bugs that were fixed. I think it would be worth the time to download the new 4.0.1 direct from iTunes, then jailbreakme.modmyi.com from iPhone browser.

I used jailbreak 2.0 on Saturday and it worked fine on my 3gs 4.0.1. I came to work to help a coworker do the same and after we enter the jailbreakme.com url in safari and slide to jailbreak it just times out. Is this a problem with the load on the jailbreakme.com server or is there a problem with my coworker’s iPhone?

Just a quick question, a work mate has updated to 4.0.2 and wants to drop back down to 4.0.1. He has downloaded the 4.0.1 firmware and done the whole shift+click restore but iTunes tells him he firmware is not compatible.
I am assuming it’s too late for him to jump back down to 4.0.1? Is this because Apple is no longer signing 4.0.1?

I have done all of this. But when I try to restore to 4.0.1 download, iTunes is not able to open it.
Larshara, d/l the 4.0.1 firmware for your drvice from flexiburn (goggle it) if its an zip file you must rename with the extendion .ipsw and save it in your desktop, connect your device, open tinyumbrella (google it) it will open if u have Java envir. loaded if itune opens close it, see if tu sees your device, click on options and select verison for your device, click Start TSS, and then open itune and enter “DFU” mode by hold down power button and home key together, up to 10 seconds or more, when the apple icon pops up let go the power button but keep pressing the home key until itune indicates u need to restore. let go the home key… hold down shift key on ur computer and click on restore. new screen pop up slect the 4.0.1 firmware u’ve d/l if all goes well it should downgrade to 4.0.1 good luck.
forgot to ask u did u save ur SHSH always save ur SHSH for each firmware u use, this way u can always go back should something goes bad.

Can somebody help me creating one IPSW file (which has to be run later on itunes for a restore) I just downloaded 4.0.1 from this site..and now what i see in the folder is 2 subfolders and 3 DMG files :S there’s no IPSW file in the folder. what to do with these file?how to restore with these file?

I’m having the same problem. I’ve downloaded the firmware file but only see .dmg files. I tried to rename the name zip file to a .ipsw but there is nothing in those files when I go to redsn0w

The method I linked to may be fake, people are not having success with it, don’t waste your time. Not possible to downgrade without shsh saved.
opps, sorry to hear that… first u may have lost the unlock, second there is no j/b for 3GS 4.0.2 as of yet! what u can try is downgrade to 4.0.1,4.0 or 3.1.3 using tinyumbrella, did u save your SHSH before? if u did then shouldn’t be a problem to go back! d/l all 3 firmwares and save then to your desktop any firmware that is in zip format must be rename to .ipsw otherwise apple will not recon. d/l tinyumbrella if u don’t have it, make sure u have java envir. loaded on computer. open tu, connect ur device (makesure the files u’ve d/l is for your device). if itune opens up, close it!! see if tu see your device,click “save SHSH” if its sucessful click option select one of the three files u d/l then click Start TSS open itune and put the device in DFU mode by pressing both the power and home key together wait until apple icon shows up then release the power button but keep pressing the home key until itune say restore release home key!! hold down shift and click restore together, new screen opens up locate the file that matches the file u selected in option of tu if all goes well here u r on ur way back. if this file don’t work u need to repeat the steps with the other files hopefuly one of those files will work for u. if none of the files works then just kick out with tu and let the device reboot it self and ur back to the begining. good luck
