Apple pushed the iOS 4.0 firmware for both iPhone and iPod Touch on June 21st. Soon after the iOS 4 release, Dev-Team released the PwnagTool 4.0 to jailbreak iOS 4.0 firmware on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G. PwnageTool creates custom iOS 4 firmware to jailbreak iPhone and iPod Touch 2G. So, simply restoring the custom iOS 4.0 you iPhone/iPod Touch will be jailbroken.

PwnageTool is available for Mac OS X only. So, only Mac users are able to create custom iOS 4 firmware using PwnageTool. What if you’re on Windows? and do not own a Mac or don’t want to go through the PwnageTool procedure?? if so, this topic is for you.

Here you can download iOS 4.0 Custom firmware for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G. These custom iOS 4 firmwares are created with PwnageTool and can be restored via iTunes. (Download links below)

IMPORTANT

• We Strongly recommend you to read the PwnageTool release note posted here before proceeding.
• iPhone 3GS: These custom firmwares work for old BootRom models only [How to: check iPhone 3GS BootRom
  ] + iPhone 3GS MUST already be jailbroken (Not with Spirit jailbreak).
• iPod Touch 2G: Non-MC models only
• There are two types of Custom Firmwares available for download below.
  • ACTIVATED: This custom IPSW file is for users who want to unlock their iPhone after jailbreak which means they are NOT on Official Carrier.
  • NOT ACTIVATED: This custom IPSW file is for users who are on Official Carrier.

So make your choice wisely.

How to Install Custom iOS 4.0

1. Download custom firmware (IPSW) (all parts) for your device from links below.
2. Join the splitted custom IPSW file by unpacking them:
   • Mac Users: use BetterZip ( or what ever you want )
   • Windows Users: use HJSplit ( or what ever you want)
3. You’ll get a .zip or .rar file. extracting the zip/rar file will bring the IPSW custom firmware.
4. Put iPhone in recovery mode. (How to: put iPhone into Recovery Mode) First time jailbreakers should put their Device into DFU Mode.
5. Press the Shift key for Windows or ALT for Mac and click restore and use the custom IPSW.
6. It will start restoring your iPhone/iPod Touch which may take 10mins and will jailbreak it.
7. iPhone 3GS and 3G users who want to unlock iPhone needs to install UltraSn0w using following guide:
