The developer behind the game The Impossible Test reports Engadget that he found evidences to iPhone OS 4.1, iPhone OS 4.0.1, 4.0 in his application’s Pinch Media analytics Data. This report popped up right after the official announcement of an event by Apple to unveil iPhone OS 4.0 on April 8th.

The mention of iPhone OS 4.0 was first found back in December 09 but the mentions of iPhone firmware 4.1 and 4.01 are new. If these OS are for real then expect these two (4.1, 4.0.1) later this year as a minor updates to iPhone firmware 4.0 which is going to be unveiled on Thursday this week. via Engadget
After the introduction of this Thursday, the major firmware 4.0 is expected to be unleashed with the next generation iPhone 4G which is expected to be unveiled on WWDC 2010.
