Apple is Blocking Skype Over 3G Network

As reported earlier that Skype goes 1.3 featuring Landscape Mode and Call quality indicator. But still Skype didn’t enable Push notifications even in the latest update and more importantly, why we couldn’t use Skype, or any voice over IP service, over 3G?

A Skype blogger, Peter Parkes, has written a few lines to 9to5mac to clarify a few things about the recent update.  According to Peter Parkes, “we’re working on this; we’ll release a version with Push notifications when the experience has been perfected.”

Also, enabling VoIP over 3G isn’t being limited by AT&T, “Many of you have also been asking when we’ll release a version which allows you to make calls over 3G – the holy grail of Skype on the mobile, if you like. We’ve had a 3G-capable version ready for some time now, but Apple’s current restrictions mean that they won’t allow us to make it available on the App Store for the moment”

This makes it clear that it’s Apple blocking the VoIP over 3G, not AT&T. May be Apple himself is working on a better way of offering similar service? What do you say? Let us know your view in the comments.
