For most people it boosts Sonys reputation and profile when they have out free ringtones. To be honest free ringtones are nothing amazing, it does nothing for me as a consumer to be offered free ringtones as compensation or as an incentive to buy some kind of phone product, in fact I would find it quite offensive.
